Why aren't there any decent USB battery chargers?

No
Am honestly wondering why there don't appear to be any decent USB chargers for Canon LP-E6 batteries (all versions).

With modern powerbanks able to put out serious wattage, there's no reason a USB charger couldn't charge a battery as quickly as the regular LC-E6.

All there seems to be, however is cheap Chinese tat which trickle charge at a few watts.

Interesting, thanks

I've got some Neewer batteries with a USB port, surely that negates the need for the expensive charger - so maybe thats an option (but appreciate you might not have any). I've never really needed to charge that way though - the only time i've used it was plugging a laptop charger directly into the battery.

That's a fair point but personally I don't use third-party batteries.

Well I find this particularly odd.
Ignoring 3rd party batteries for now.

I’m not an electronics engineer, but given the volatility of Lithium batteries, I’d guess charging them at a higher rate than they were designed for is a potentially risky strategy. So surely any charger that’s designed to be faster than the OEM is a potential risk.

And given that Canon doesn’t build its own batteries, that they’re farmed out to a Chinese manufacturer (where we all know the specs aren’t exactly safe from being copied), surely 3rd party batteries are a lower risk than a fast charger.

Just my thoughts.

I don't think the Hahnel charges any faster than the Canon LC-E6, in fact I'd be surprised if it charged as fast.

I think they're just claiming that, as it can charge two batteries at once, the total time to charge both is less than using the LC-E6 for each in turn.

Yes I fully agree with you that charging faster than Canon's own charger could be risky. Even if not risky, batteries generally last longer if you charge them slower in my experience.

Well the Hahnel turned up today and, coincidentally, so did my R5mk2 with a spare LP-E6P so I decided to test the charger out with the spare battery.

The battery clearly was't totally flat and the charge level displayed on the charger quickly ramped up to about 25% so I presume that's roughly how much charge there was.
Hooked it up to my Anker powerbank so I could monitor how much wattage it was pulling and it seemed to hover around the 12W mark.
Took about 1h50m to fully charge the battery and shut off.

Unfortunately the R5mk2 has a stuck red sub-pixel in the EVF so that's going back!

Realise maybe not as convenient but why not use a decent power bank and a charger with USB C input?

Exactly what I'm doing with the Hahnel. Already have an Anker powerbank so can just chuck that and the charger in my backpack and charge batteries while I'm out and about and away from power.
