Yes
A lot of people can't understand how an oil shortage crept up on us, here,
in this great country of ours.
~~~
Well, there is a very straightforward answer.
~~~
Nobody bothered to check the oil!
~~~
We just didn't know we were getting low.
~~~
And the reason for that?
~~~
Simple geography.
~~~
You see, all our OIL is located in The North Sea
~~~
All our DIPSTICKS are located in Westminster.
Very good-lol
Really though when the north sea oil ran free back in the 80's we thought hey we are rich and we sold off shed loads of the stuff abroad-whilst other countries stock piled billions of gallons of the stuff.
Now we are being raped by saudi oil guru's who think being rich means having fifty wives 50 cars and three hundred children - but who can still speak only two word of english.
I want
So now do you understand why fuel prices are above the pound? :lol:
Let's not forget snow ski facilities in Dubai...;)
I think it's unfair to blame the middle east personally. Simple supply and demand!
If a UK company invented an engine that ran on atmospheric CO2 tomorrow would you also complain of the benefits that would bring us?
If you want someone to blame, DEFINATELY look towards Westminster. After all they're the ones that have frittered away billions on pathetic schemes and now don't have the headroom to give us a break on fuel duty!
The banks are partly to blame for the rising price of oil. They are investing the money in oil to make money on future prices. Thus pushing the prices still further.
China is also to blame as they are buying up loads of it along with steel etc. pushing up the prices worlwide and creating shortage of supply.
Our theiving scumbag government are just keeping it high by the excessive taxation
Westminster dont hoik the price of a barrel up to 200 dollars do they.
Taxes in westminster stay the same-the proce of oil goes up.
Whos to blame???
For every 5p fuel goes up, 4p is taxation. The revenue raised on a gallon of fuel has increased by around 25%. The government could quite easily adjust the taxation and achieve the same revenue but they won't they will continue to bleed us dry. The way it's going there will be a money shortage long before a fuel shortage.
No, but they spent billions on quangos and hair brained schemes and now can't even consider a tax break because THEY too are mortgaged up to the hilt!
They're either thankng their lucky stars or rubbing their hands together in glee. Either way, we lose!
Rofliplop! @ Taxi :lol:
Just to say, we're not "running out" by any means. This is a common fallacy, which becomes the straw man that is easily torn down. There is plenty oil left - at least as much as we have already used - the problem is the rate of extraction* versus the rate we want to use it.
For all other related aspects, I pass everyone on to Professor Bartlett for a very entertaining and informative program...!
* Note extraction, not production. We don't "produce" oil.
if they stopped making that crappy moulded plastic wrapping to put everything in we'd free up a bit of supply wouldnt we!
down with blow moulded packaging, in with paper bags!!!!
