Why are my panoramics failing?

I get the shot in focus take the shot , pan to the right making sure the left shot isn't overlapping the second and take another shot. Get home , try to stitch and it fails.

One app says wrong size and autopano tells me no panoramic found! :bang:

Thats what you are doing wrong. Overlap by about a third and take as many pics as needed.

I always leave an overlap between shots, sometimes as much as 40%, so the software has space to play in

Yes, that's the problem, need to overlap by about a third.
 
how much overlap and is the camera on the same angle? if one shot is dead flat and the 2nd is on a wonk it may prove difficult
 
I think any software will need more overlap than that. It has to match the points on the two photos so the more overlap the better it seems, also if using a wide angle lens then you need to allow for distortion at the edges which could confuse the software even more.

On a side note you might find shooting in portrait will also help as you will have more image to play with when they have been stiched, but you also need more shots to produce the panorama.
 
Yep you are spot on , it's the overlap... Just tried it on two images that have much more overlap and it did a panoramic straight away LOL

Damn it!

The first time i went i failed because i didn't have a tripod
The second time i failed because i did not allow enough overlap

All that walking and driving for more failed panoramics! grrrrrrr , ahh well try try again lol
 
The exposure has changed as well 200th vs 250th this would make it harder for the software.

The best panoramics are shot with a longer lens such as 100 or 135mm rather than a wide angle, take a lot of shots and just use the central portion as this prevents problems with distortion.

One thing I will add, if you plan to do a large panorama take pics in Portrait orientation or you will end up with a very narrow long picture which will not blow up that well, I made the mistake a few times and have some nice landscapes that are ruined as they are far too narrow for the length!!learnt by my mistakes :lol:

Usually when i take landscapes i don't use portrait mode, i just take a few shots from left to right then move camera up and take some shots of above. The software will combine all the shots. Also a tripod isnt really necessary. I take most hand held and no problems...
 
I'm trying to do this wide scale pano of this church , it's about 23 frames and i made sure i grouped everything so it will stitch correctly. But it's not! , for example the front benches instead of being aligned are ghosting and some of them don't even line up :bang:. Can't post the pics as they are HUGE! , but this is HDR too

FIXED IT!! , Render ( Smart Blend )

That sorted it nicely :D

woohoo! prepare to be blown away(tomorrow)
