Why are my eyes so dark

Pretty basic question, but im stumped.

I had a shoot this weekend, and most of my shots of this fellow, his eyes are much darker than the rest of his face.
I wasn't using flash...maybe I should have?

I should add.. it was a very overcast day, with little cloud movement and the light was pretty constant throughout the day.

FWIW, I also photographed his fiance the same day, and her eyes are perfectly exposed..

Any thoughts?

NB - these are 100% unprocessed RAW files, I am only looking at why his eyes are so dark compared to the rest of the exposure

Your brow casts a shadow over your eyes but it affects different people to different degrees. For him specifically the area around the bottom of his eyelid is quite defined and it's casting its own shadow which when added to the normal brow shadow makes his eye area look dark.

The last image isn't as bad because there's some light coming from in front of him rather than mostly being above him like the first two - compare the neck shadow.

That's what it looks like to me anyway.

It's all about the position of the face in relation to the light. With overhead light then the shadow is cast downwards.

Here the light does look quite soft but a pop of fill flash would have lightened the shadows.

A combination of high, diffused light and deep set eyes could produce this effect.

A little fill flash or a reflector below his face might have helped?
 
He seem to have very deep set eyes,and to be barely awake,and he doesnt seem comfortable.

You could try a white reflecter,to bounce some more light into his eyes.
 
Some slight adjustment with Photoshop would fix it. Note I said slight...

Flash is always a good idea, don't think of it as nighttime illumination, its all about fill
 
Too many carbohydrates causes darkened eyes... Are you a pasta monster ?
