Why are lens cases....

...so expensive....
Im looking for at least 2 soft cases/pouches for my lenses as I'm going abroad soon and will most likely put lenses along with body on to my backpack as I wont be able to carry 2 pieces of hand baggage on the plane with me...
Anyhow....they are so expensive that its much better to buy a normal photobag lets say from Crumpler...
So I'm asking...why?why why why they are so expensive

I'm confused. You've got two lenses, one of which lives on your camera presumably, so why do you need "at least 2" lens cases?

Anyway, if you want to save money, stuff the lens into a thick sock. Stuff that into the other sock of the pair. Repeat with 2 more socks if they're not thick enough. Remember to use clean socks.

Good idea with the socks Stewart!, I think taking the lens off the camera for travelling is a good idea, it minimises the risk of crushing your gear.
