Who's work inspires you?

everybody on here, because if it was not for everyone we wouldn't have a great forum like this!!. (my diplomatic side coming out)

Damn what a lovely thread, I dunno what to say to those of you who hold me in such high regard / or have a soft spot for me :D Just thanks, I learned it all here.

I am gonna have a good think and hit the thread again with my list. Top of my head though, Ste Jones instantly pops up as a HUGE inspiration. HimUpNorth too, but he posts so little now. Pete Carr whilst I admire hugely as a photographer and who has inspired me in terms of pushing the processing that bit more, well - I feel he is let down by an attitude which is the opposite of helpful at times - he really could help so many and inspire so many, but point blank refuses to. The two of us chat a lot in IRC, so I am hoping he won't mind my honesty. Gandhi, I will always hold in high regard - he is an awesome photographer.

Please don't take any offense if I have missed you out! It's late, and I am tired...and I need to go bolt my door in case Pete comes to murder me! :D

Gary.

An image of his has stuck with me and the reason was the risk and confidence to get it. Most of us will get the shot of the bride stepping from the car. It means being there when the car arrives and usually getting low to get that step as she transitions from car to ground. I saw a shot of Jeff's were he had gone to a high window overlooking the courtyard where the car would arrive and got the shot of the bride stepping out from a unique angle. The vision to do this and the risk in attempting it (if he had got his timing wrong by a fraction of a second he would not have got the image) highlighted to me what makes his wedding photography special.

I regularly look at his site and always see shots that inspire and push me to be as creative with my own photography. I hate to admit it but I will go for the safe shot and know that I am probably doing what 99% of other wedding photographers will do but one day I will say 'sod it' and photograph a wedding without a shot list and without a set of 'must have' shots and just let myself shoot the shots that I know I can and really want to shoot.

John

I have no idea about wedding photography but those are easily the best I've seen.

Marcel.... I followed his work last year. and I think he is amazing. This year I have had to deal with a lot of personal stuff, and have lost all my photography mojo, so to speak, but last year, as well as being a full time dad to his kids (bloody well done, I work because I i'm not up to the job of full time mum) he didn't falter once, he let us into his life. which is very brave. he is truely inspirational to me.

This post really stood out for me.

Sometimes it's not about looking at other photos. Hope you get your mojo back.

I've got three, and those are Edinburgh Gary, Jay McLaughin & 'DeanPhoto'. Gary's shots inspire me because they're always, ALWAYS crystal clear and absolutely pin sharp. Jay's shots inspire me due to the way he shoots and the idea's he uses etc. Dean's shots inspire me due to his 'thinking outside the box' feeling I get from them.

Henri-Cartier Bresson probably rates as my number 1 for inspiration.

There are quite a few on here plus I do like Jerry Uelsmann and to be amazed with Extreme Macro Lennart Nilsson.

I saw this thread a while ago and it got me thinking.... then my head blew up.

If I had to name a single person then here she is:

From the world of urban exploration, Ellie Dunn http://www.contaminationzone.com

In no was does Ellie inspire me, I don't think anyone does, I just love her work.

so many of yourselves have inspired me tbh, i was never really interested in photography untill i started to visit this site!
my favourite at the moment though is PELLEPIANO just how he produces his shots is amazing to me. but if you enjoy taking pics, and you think they are good who are we to say different as not all eyes see the same thing, its what you see that really matters

this is a brilliant thread - best inspiration I've had for ages

if only all the sites had - how i took that phototips :)

Edinburgh Gary is a great inspiration, I have learnt so much from his images by watching and trying to replicate what I see.

Wish him the best of luck with his business venture.

for me ...

Anton Corbijn, his work with Depeche Mode (especially) is well worth viewing ...
Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, his photographs of Whitby and her characters at the turn of the last century are exemplary and finally, Joe Cornish, who I can listen to speaking of his craft and the work he produces.

I really like Werner Bischof's work.... For more up to date stuff I'd say Carol Guzy and Sebastiao Salgado

every single photographer inspires me :]

I'm surprised (I dunno why) nobody has mentioned Chase Jarvis yet? He inspires me simply with his energy and vision. He's a bit of a megalomaniac though!

I also admire Mark Carwardine - simply awe inspiring wildlife photographer.

Joe McNally and David Hobby

I'm a fan of David Hobby, but to be honest whereas he does good work, I've yet to see something of his that blows me away, I dunno, his work just doesn't really inspire me. What I do admire is his methodology. I may well be on my own with this view...

no one for jerry ghionis

btw - couple of very inspiring free teaser training downloads ate his ice society site

I must have missed this, but I couldn't let it pass without replying with a huge thankyou. That has really cheered me up :) Thanks!
I really hope you get your mojo back. I lose it alot, but its always there, waiting to come back!

I can honestly say that many many people on here inspire me - more so than the professional photographers in that I can relate to the people who post on here as serious amateurs/hobbyists who have a passion, an eye for detail and are willing to share both their images and their learnings.

Nice thread.

I have to say I've been completely overwhelmed by Luke Woodford's stuff, some simply amazing shots. His style is exactly the same as what I aspire to be, I'll never be that good but it helps to know he's only been doing it a couple of years.

Yousuf Karsh is another favourite of mine.

You're not on your own with this one. Some of his work is great but not the proportion which would propel him into the hall of fame for me. I do however admire his opennes with sharing information.

I've recently discovered Nick Brandt's african wildlife work and it's the first stuff in a while that consistantly takes my breath away.
