Who's the best band you've seen live?

Nirvana - Manchester Academy
Joy Division- Preston Warehouse
Smashing Pumkins - Liverpool

My old band supported Stone Roses a couple of times in '89 and they were special gigs.

Recent live bands that impressed would be: Bright Eyes at Glasto and Maverick Sabre last week in Manchester.

Edit, Thin Lizzy probably the best live band that I ever saw. Black Rose tour at Preston Guild Hall was something else.

Foo Fighters, Wembley Stadium.
Still have my unused tickets for that concert, had to go away to work after buying them and booking time off, i was compensated well though

Foo Fighters, last summer, Milton Keynes .. nothing will ever beat that :)

I have to agree, i went both nights (or days) all the way from Aberdeen with the girlfriend in tow. Best weekend of my life, also seeing Roger Taylor who was in the best band ever, and also sea sick steve with Grohl on drums

Im a bit of a Foo fan.

Second night we knew where he would be so we stalked for a bit haha. Loved it.

Oooooh! Gigs

I'm just back from another 'one of the best gigs of all time' experiences ... Rival Sons ... but I said that last week when I saw Other Lives too

It's such a tough thing to decide on; I am soooooo envious of anyone who saw Led Zeppelin (not the O2 or Live Aid fiasco) Deep Purple (70s) The Beatles/Rolling Stones (no matter how bad the PA might have been) or anyone at the Marquee.

Looking back on this thread has got me fired up and even makes me want to book a tkt for Motorhead (saw them last year, meh, not that loud) just to see the Anti Nowhere League!!!

Faves
ACDC - Brum NEC in the 80's, just cos we got front row, but they were fantastic too
Foo Fighters - ULU, freebie through a friend - whenever I hear them on TV, one of the guitars is out of tune
Elbow - Hammersmith, Nottingham RC, or the MEN - can't decide which was best
Alberta Cross - somewhere in Belfast or it might have been Dublin - felt as if I was the only person there that had heard of them
Deep Purple @ Knebworth - I was a massive fan back then, but saw them at the NEC soon after and wished I hadn't.

Countless others :geek:

T.REX supported by the Damned at London Rainbow in March '77
Chuck Berry at the Ipswich Regent about 17 years ago,
Mike Oldfeld circa '78 at Ipswich,
Stranglers/Squeeze early 80's
Clash, TRB, X Ray Specs Hyde Park RAR late 70's
Punk cncerts at Colchester Polytechnic in late 70's including Gen X, Susie & The banshees and the likes.
Some gigs at the London Marquee, Wardour St, Like the Buzzcocks and stuff.

Not been to a gig for years, but did see 20th Century Boy at the local theatre, (Bio musical of Marc Bolan), which was great, esp the live music, vocals could have been better if sang by audience member Daniels (of tribute band T.Rextasy), but still a great performance by the lead roll actor.

Seen too many bands to have an outright fave but some of the highlights

AC/DC at donnington
The Mission
New Model Army
Transvision Vamp
Texas

Once had the misfortune of attending a gig by Fairground attraction :gag:, don't think i've spoken to my cousin since then !

Ha! Just started looking back at this thread and found I'd already replied once already. (#66)
Just goes to show, when you reach a certain age your mind starts to go!! :'(

I have to got back to 1981 for the only WOW concerts I've seen. Gary Numan at Wembley Arena and Kraftwerk at the Lyceum.

Saw Numan again in Brighton in 2008 (I think!) and Kraftwerk again in 1991 and 1997.

For sheer consistency & staying power, worthy of a mention are The Hamsters. Currently midway through their 25th (& final) year of touring. They have to be one of the hardest working pub/club bands ever. A mix of ZZ Top & Hendrix with a smattering of their own material. Well worth a night out if they're in your area before March 12

Iron Maiden at Donington Monsters of Rock, 1988. We'd had a hell of a job getting there, got in late and missed half the support acts, it was raining and muddy, then Maiden came on and blew everything away :)

Oh man, I'm so jealous to read this. Of course I've seen loads of footage from the gigs in their various videos but it must have been incredible to actually be there! Up the irons!

The Nodding Donkeys ;)

Oval Rock House, Norwich , 1990? 91?

Mental.

It was loud, I couldn't hear properly for a week.

Sorry Onana - :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Think I still have one of Mr McBrain's drumsticks somewhere in the garage.

Amy Winehouse at the academy L'pool.....she could belt out a good song

Best Stadium gig though was Skid row and Guns n roses in August 91 at Wembley......

Sebastian Bach caused an uproar with Wembley borough council when he read out their letter forbidding them to play a certain song......... ("Get the f*** out")

They played it anyway.....

David Bowie- never thought i'd ever get to see him
The cult @ finsbury Park in 91 Pearl jam supported and Therapy? were the first band on
Therapy and Wildhearts double headline tour can't remember the year but went to 6 of the gigs
Any Killing Joke i've attended
Metallica in the tent @ Download just as Rob whats is face joined
Metallica @ download a couple of years later when Lars missed the plane and Joey from Slipknot and Dave Lombardo filled in.
The sisters of Mercy, playing a freebie @ Josephs well as Near Meth Experience, no smoke no theatrics just the sisters
Bauhaus @ Manchester Academy
Nine Inch Nails at Manchester Apollo
and Just to throw a Curve ball in, Scissor Sisters @ the MEN one of the most fun bands you can ever see

I was there for the Sunday with Sea Sick, would have loved to have done both days, really was the best show ever, they have SO much energy and soooo many good songs :D
Im a bit of a Foo fan.

Same here :)

Pink Floyd (twice) back in the seventies, the Dark Side of the Moon Tour

Rolling Stones, again in the seventies on the Goat's Head Soup tour.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing One Republic in Tampa, FL a few years back!

One abiding memory from that gig are the time between Kiss and Maiden, the crowd got bored and the sky was full of plastic bottles and bits of rubbish being thrown around - I was hit by half a hamburger so did my bit to pass it on :D

The Nodding Donkeys ;)

Oval Rock House, Norwich , 1990? 91?
My brother got free tickets to that gig from the local pub then didn't mention it to me until the gig was sold out :bat:

I'll have to dig out my old leather jacket with the maiden painting on the back
