I am shooting some photos for a gallery next week - they are having a group of school children in to the gallery so that they can get some shots to use as promotional material for brochures/websites ect.

Who's responsibility is it to get model release forms and parent/gardien release forms? Is it mine or theirs? They are organising the whole thing purely to get the shots they need - so I would have thought that they would have asked permission from the parents - but want to make sure that I will not be liable should there be any body who complains about the use of the images.

Any ideas?

I would argue that it is the gallery's responsibility to obtain the release forms but it is your responsibility to verify that they have done it. They are arranging the shoot and providing the models. In this context you are just a hired gun but I do believe you have a duty of care to mention it to them.

Not legally binding in the UK. The long and short of it is if you have the landowner's permission to shoot on their property you can. It might be nice for the gallery to tell the guardians ahead of time that photos are going to be taken.

Whomever is going to use the shots should be the one who needs to make sure permission and paperwork is correct I would have thought.

Hannah I would have thought that the Gallery would have already covered this issue with the parents signing a form for images to be used. I know you sign a disclaimer at the start of term at my child's school and surely it is the same for every trip. Any children who's parents objected wouldn't be allowed to go.

Hopes it goes ok.

I also think that the school should also have this issue covered as well. As there are al sorts of issues that could raise there heads. Pictures of children that may be fostered and birth patents who are not allowed to know whereabouts. and so on and so forth so i would contact school just to confirm.
