We all know everyone likes a bit of Schadenfreude so here goes my great start to the year...

Was heading to the shops to get some supplies before I head back to uni tomorrow and when I got out of the car and closed the door I heard a small pop sound, by some stroke of luck I walked round the back of the car and noticed this :shake:

If I hadn't have gone round the back I wouldn't have noticed it until I got back and would have assumed some little scrote did it, not unheard of around there.

No idea what caused it to be so weak, could have been the heating elements in the window but I would only be guessing. Oddly the car had a lot more condensation in it than I've ever seen, the seals are probably going but then again they are 13 years old...

Anyone else had something like this happen?

Someone rolled backwards into my sisters Polo ... no damage at all other than the windscreen cracked 2/3 of the way across!

I've been driven into 3 times in my polo so far. Two times was in 4 days of each other! No damage at all either times.

Some people have all the luck!

A couple of years ago someone clipped my car on a dual carriageway and knocked my wing-mirror off. It's been Gaffer Taped in place and has passed every MOT so far

Something like that happened to me years ago. I had just fitted some ICE to my Astra and shut the back hatch. the hatch stopped but the window didnt. Glass everywhere!

Had a Granada some years back, flicked the switch to heat the rear window one icy morning and the thing almost instantly shattered.....a somewhat frightening experience for my Mother and young Daughter sitting in the back

I'm a little surprised that yours went just by shutting the driver's door though,as mentioned, most probably a weakness somewhere......(but could that sort of damage also be inflicted by a lowlife with an air rifle or the like )

this still counts as a windscreen on your insurance if you didnt know
so will sost about 70-00 and no loss of no claims

Or £25 and a trip to the scrappy plus half and hour with the hoover!

I rang my insurers earlier to get it sorted, all dealt with in a few minutes and relatively painless

I would have considered it if I wasn't at uni in Manchester with the car at home in Leeds

Many car windows are glued in these days rather than the old rubber mounts, rubber likely gives a more freedom of movement.

There is a spate of that around here at the minute, a friends neighbour had her car done exiting a roundabout past some trees and bushes. Reported it to the police who advised that they were very much aware of the incidents at that roundabout but have yet to catch anyone in connection.

At least the OP got it sorted relatively painlessly
I suspect, as others have said, it will have been a weakness and a possibly heavy door closure ;)

you should get someone to take a look at your number plate though, pretty sure its illegal to have black x's painted all over it
