The transition from Canon is complete, the D3 and 28-70mm f/2.8 arrived today and the D300 should arrive tomorrow, shipping conformation and tracking number has just been emailed for the Nikon AF-S 300mm f/2.8G ED-IF VR N so im all set to go.

Just charged the battery and fired off a few frames (dont even know how to change the aperture yet) in the kitchen and the results at 6400 ISO are amazing

Nothing scientific and the real test will come on Sunday night when im covering the World Club Challenge Final at Elland Road Leeds between the Leeds Rhinos and the Manly Sea Eagles from OZ

Yup there is no noise in them lovely red crosses:)

I can see them now too.

Really, really impressive stuff.
I think alot of people (me included) have thought about a switch to nikon at one stage or another, just now is not the best time to be buying equipment.

D3 has always been on my wanted list.

Good stuff

All I am hoping is that by the time the exchange rate has gone back the other way and cameras are reasonably cheap again, Canon will have come out with something that can beat Nikon right now.

Ive been thinking for over a year about switching, i agonised over it for many hours, the deed is done and other than being screwed round by Jacobs it was pretty painless, i lost a little income last weekend being without any gear but hey ho, there you go.

The current price rises are really immaterial if youre thinking of switching, OK gear has gone up in price but this time last year there was no way i was going to get over £600 for a used EF24-105mm L IS F/4 or over £4,000 for a 5/6 year old EF 400mm L IS F/2.8

Great shots, well worth all the money to take a picture of a milk bottle!

You couldn't have done that with Canon :naughty:

Good job on the purchases but I am not jealous about your 300mm VR. Not at all. :)

Best you get practicing then :D

Gary can i ask why you went with a 300 when you had a 400, was it down to cost, not needing the 400 and 300 being a better length for you.

Mark

Cost unfortunatly, its even worse than just dropping from 400 to 300 as the D3 is full frame and the MKIII was a 1.3x crop, i know theres the DX crop mode but in reality that does nothing you couldnt crop in PP

I will probably only notice the difference during the Cricket season but a 1.4X Extender will go a little way to ease the difference, that is until i get my grubby mitts on a 400mm

I might use the D300 for Cricket, will just have to see how good it is.

Just hoping my learning curve doesnt take too long and that my new combo can produce images like this
