Just had my first eye test since I left school ... :eek:

Although my eyesight is still quite good, I have a prescription for some glasses to help my vision.

I have seen loads of offers on the net and in the shops at the moment.

Where is the best place to get them from? ... Where do you get yours?
 
I got some really nice D&G glasses from Vision express but a bit on the pricey side, specsavers seem good value for designer frames
 
I didn't realise how important eye tests were, I had my first in about 17 yrs last year, never saw the need because my sight is almost perfect. I was diagnosed with very high pressures and have been taking tests for the last 12 months including a retinal scan last week, and I will probably be confirmed with Glycoma next month and I will be on medication then forever. I am pretty lucky because left unchecked blindness is the outcome !!
So anybody reading get your eyes tested, even if your sight is good.

It was 30 years ago that I had mine checked last.

It was only because of a free eye test in a supermarket that I even bothered.

Eyes are so important that I will get them checked more often from now on.
 
I wear glasses over 20years now ;)
last time Ive used specsavers,
they have good deals on glasses from time to time
 
specsavers.....its too late after.... wishing you had gone :)

I go to a local place Specs Direct. Ive been to Asda Opticians before now.
Once you have your prescription you can go anywhere.

There's actually a really good site mentioned on the DVD Forums. You order online with your prescription details and it ends up a fraction of UK High Street shops.

Ill be buggered if I can remember the name of it though.
 
i usually get my gigs from specsavers,


although if you can get them try to get some of them really natty fashionable NHS frames they used to do...

i wouldnt like to buy specs from the internet, its something you need to try on.
 
I've worn glasses for about 16 years and about 5 years ago i discovered the miracle that is contact lenses.

I've dealt with tons of different opticians over the years but recently I've started going to asda and i honestly can't fault them, very comeptent staff and pretty good prices
 
I have worn glasses since I was 7, am very, very short sighted. Having had an experience where specsavers fitted the lenses incorrectly to a pair of glasses, which sent me oddly dizzy until I worked out what it was, I only go to an independant optician now (who is also an opthalmic surgeon).
My glasses tend to come in at about £300 though!

Been wearing glasses for about 10 years. Used to be my local optician I went to but my mum packed in her childminding job after 16 years and got a job at Specsavers - so now I get plenty of discount :)
 
Im pretty blind and have had glasses since leaving school (Really needed them when I started driving) and since Ive progressively got worse each checkup/year.

I wear contact lenses for the most of it, although there are days I just cannot be bothered or where my eyes are irritating so will just wear my glasses.

Im with Specsavers and have monthly contact lenses for 13 quid a month, that includes all aftercare/checks etc. Also, being in this I get my glasses half price aswell so think I only paid about 60-70 quid for a pair of designer glasses last time round.
 
Couldn't get on with my first pair from Specsavers. Turned out to be the base curvature of the lenses, which I would've thought they'd check for, owing to the difference it made.
 
got my last pairs from Tesco opticians :)
 
Cheers foggy, that's one of them. I think glasses4u or specs4u or something like that was the other.
 
goggles4u is excellent and very cheap, so cheap I've used them 5 or 6 times now just when I fancy a change of style, the glasses generally take a week to arrive and you can use paypal to pay for them.
 
I should add, pay the bit extra and go for the thinnest 1.67 composite glass material for the lenses, it's much lighter and more comfortable.
 
I went to 'spec savers' last time I had my eyes tested, I had great vision but one eye is slightly better than the other which can cause a little strain and discomfort when reading for long periods of time/time at the computer.

I recently found out that I can get a free eye test from where I work and discount on glasses should I need them (which I do)

It may be worth having a word with the company you work for to save a few £! My test is long over due so I may have to see about getting the eye test voucher. :)
 
Another vote for SpecSavers. Not that I've bought any specs for ages since my vision seems to be stable. I get my contact lenses from them as well - I drop in and pick them up since I don't wear them every day.
 
I seriously wouldn't go to any high street optician for glasses, they have ripped us off royally for years and continue to do so. You can buy specs online for £20-40 that are the same as those you'd buy on the high street for £200+
 
I get mine from Specsavers, am currently needing new glasses every 10-12 months so it is pricey considering I need normal and sunglasses!! Their 2 for 1 offers are pretty good.

Got new glasses about 6 weeks ago and had real difficulty choosing a pair that didn't have huge chunky arms, I have a very petit face and they swamped it :( So had to go for a designer titanium pair at £125, but got a wicked pair of Roxy sunglasses for free which was fab :)

Agreed.

There is a chap in our town who used to work as an optical technician for some of the local opticians. He has now set up on his own supplying cheap glasses.

You need to take a prescription to him as he is not qualified to do tests (although I expect he is totally competent to do so).

I paid just over £100 for somthing which cost me £300+ last time.

The traditional opticians are all complaining about him as he is blatantly advertising that he is cheaper than them. Unfortuneatly forthem, he is telling the truth.

He is also gaining a lot of business by word of mouth, which is how I got to know about him.

This looks like a good business model and I would expect similar shops to be found around the country.

Ihave had to wear glasses from the age of 2 and never tried specsavers even though they are probably my local optician so will give them a go next time .......by the way I only need one real lens and the other a fake (just curved glass) to make them look like a proper pair
 
I generally get mine from Specsavers. I tried ASDA opticians once and I won't be bothering again. I got two pairs of Osiris frames, one normal, one sunglasses, with the usual anti-scratch, anti-glare etc coatings for about 150 quid.
 
Well why not try go back and get measured up for contact lenses... now I know, prob some people may disagree but in my opinion, it takes a while but once you get used to them, they are much better than glasses these damn things hangin off your nose ..steamed up ...dropping off, sitting on them, losing them, getting in the road off a snog, (not that I do much of that these days) depending on what job you have it can be a pain ... if I could afford it I certainly would consider laser surgery never mind contacts...:thinking:
 
I used specsaver, but will only buy glasses one a 2 for 1 deal, and usually get sunglasses as the second pair, because it is horrible not to have them when you drive.

The misses has contacts and has a wierd base curve which means that no optician holds any in stock, they just order them in, which is annoying when she needs some in a rush.

2 pairs of ONeil frames from spec savers.

Oh, and a very fetching gas mask with prescription lenses in it from the British army. :)
 
I had my first eye test a couple of weeks ago. Infinity in the left eye and -0.5DS on the right. I believe that is quite good considering I'm 19 and work in IT. :p
 
Another :thumbs: for Specsavers, I'm with them for my contacts... they are amazing all day all night ones that i only have to clean weekly & change monthly. Its bliss waking up with perfect sight again in the morning instead of fumbling for glasses.
I also get the aftercare/checks included and 50% off glasses.
Think its £13-15 a month i pay

I've just had to take contacts out as i had a mingy eyelid infection (allergy/bite...nothing to do with contacts) and i'm still in glasses..missing my contacts like mad!:)
