A wee story from this morning.
I was wandering up the hill this morning, messing about with the 50mm lens & some NDgrads.
I had meandered my way up through some longish grass & had been looking back taking shots of the far hills.
Anyway battery went dead & I stood in the shade of some trees to change it.
As I took the spent battery out of the camera I looked down the hill from where I had came & could not believe what I was seeing.
A Roe buck was following exactly my wandering line up the hill. I froze, & waited to see what he would do next.
On he came, stopping every now & then to sniff the ground before coming on a bit more.
Eventually he was within about 30 paces of me & was still sniffing the ground & by now I could also see his tongue was tasting the air.
He came a few steps nearer then froze. We both stood rooted to the spot for several seconds ( though it seemed longer) till he decided there was nothing to worry about & he went back to his business of quietly grazing across the hill. I stood there for a few more minutes till he was just out of sight, then went off in the other direction.
Had I had a longer lens I would have got maybe one shot before the camera noise spooked him, so in this case I think I was better enjoying the moment & leaving the photography for another time.
I was amazed though at the way he stalked up the hill following exactly my line.
