Aye, that's me, it's not an entirely wrong description either. :)

Anyway, what's this about? ABout 5, maybe 6, months ago I quit the weed. I'd smoked 20 a day, at least, for the last 30 years and just woke up one day and stopped. I've no idea why, just did.

Trying to keep occupied led me eventually to the gym where I've started to get myself back in shape and that led to jogging :gag: A barbecue we were having one night led to another conversation with a female rugby player and she challenged me to enter the Loch Ness 10K run in October. Now, one thing I can never pass up is a challenge, especially when it's supported by a couple of bottles of wine :D So I've entered.

I've never run that distance, I've never done anything like this before, but I will. Training is increased and I'm feeling pretty confident about it, to the extent that, providing I don't get any injuries, I feel that I can ask to be sponsored.

I'm not going to say anything else, if you want to sponsor me to help guys, and girls, who have put themselves on the line please do. If you don't then that's absolutely fine too.

The charity is Help for Heroes and my page on just giving is

here, please help

The home page for the run itself is here

I'll keep things updated here and on the website as to how it's going :)

Congrats on the kicking into touch of the evil weed.....

And a very worthy cause too, so........... I wish you the very very best of luck with it and that the funds raised reflect the efforts of our brave forces around the world.

I don't do the online giving thing though m8, so pm me your address closer to the time and i'll gladly entrust royal mail with a little something towards the cause.

Brian

Thank you sir, will do

BUmp for a good cause :)

Tenner via PayPal from me - Good Luck Dod.

Awesome Bob, thanks, really appreciate that

I've scratched the bottom of my dusty wallet for you, just a heads up though I had to do it via IE as the just giving pages fails to load in Opera, gives an xml parsing error.

Wow, thanks folks :)

Dod. You helped me out once. That is a good cause you are working for. I do not know how to do online giving stuff so when you are ready send me an address & a crisp shilling or two will come your way.;)
Good luck & all the best on the run.

£10 sent and a bump to the top :)

Dod,

When I met you at Blair Atholl last week, I had totally forgotten about this. One thing puzzles me though, I don't remember shaking the hand of a:
...fat, old flabby bloke...
:)

When I donated to Rob for wheels I had a few problems with Papal, nothing to do with either of them, they got their money, just annoyed with scum who can’t leave other peoples money alone.
I had to change my CC and log-in details.
As I can’t run I will look upon it as you doing the running for me, pm your address and I’ll make sure you get something as a reward.
You must be quid’s in giving up 20 a day.

Quick update, my training for this has been going really well and I'm doing between 20 and 30K a week with my furthest individual run being just over 9K.

However, something has came up which means I can't take part unfortunately. Justgiving automatically forward the sponsorship monies so I'd like to refund those who sponsored me. I've already PM'd you but I'm just posting here to put it on the record :(

I'm quite embarassed about this and can only apologise for the inconvenience. :(

There's no reason why we can't still donate...

http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/donations.html

My money is on the way. I can't afford much, but I have a very good friend who has been in N. Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq & Afghanistan.

I'm just thankful that he made it home in one piece...many of our lads didn't...

If each of us could spare just £1, that could make one heck of a difference to their lives.

I don't want to get into the political why's and wherefore's...all I know is that we have fathers and sons putting themselves in the firing line for us and we owe them...

Janet

If I may, I would also like to offer an alternative to Janet's post. If anyone is thinking of doing as Janet says, a direct donation to Erskine Hospital would help - direct donations do not incur any administration costs and the full amount is used to assist those who need it most.

Sorry I can't provide a link - internet usage is not great where I am at the moment.
