How many of you want to give up? Maybe none of you smoke!

If you do want to give up try Gamucci electronic cigarettes. I have been smoking for 45 years, I bought a Gamucci starter kit a week ago and I have already halved the amount of normal cigarettes I smoke. Now I am starting to enjoy the electronic one more than the normal ones.

Are there any of you wanting to give up, and cant find a way? You have to try these!

The cheapest place I found them was on ebay! £30 for a starter kit which was the equivalent of 100 cigarettes and then it's about £13 for the equivalent of 200.

Believe me this is just like smoking. They glow like a cigarette, they appear to smoke like a cigarette(but it's only vapour), they taste of tobacco and contain nicotine. You cant get nearer to the real thing!

I decided to cut down recently, and decided to only have one when I use to enjoy it most.I really enjoyed a ciggie after a meal so decided to only have one then.Doing well down to 20 meals a day ;)

Yeah! I did the same with a pint and got down to 20 pints a day. Seriously these things are the answer. I have got hooked on them and it costs me 20% of the cost of fags. I can smoke them inside, in the office, in the pub at home and it's not a problem.

Will have to check them out Thanks

a strangely evangelical thread Gordon, are you the main importer by any chance?

No I'm not, it's nothing to do with me. I wish I was though. I am just so happy to have found something that gets me away from the cigarettes.

go cold turkey. Otherwise you're not giving up, you're substituting!

Either way, good luck.

All smokers need to take a deep breath and think what they are doing to themselves.

i've tried THREE TIMES (one time using the equivalent of Zaban because with head injuries, not allowed Zyban) and each time, been unsuccessful. old habits die hard so it's not as easy as non-smokers think

good on ya Strangways

It may be a substitute to start with, but it gets rid of the tar and other chemicals and costs me a fraction of cigarettes.

excellent valid point

I know how hard it can be because I'm an ex smoker myself.

The problem is different people deal with addictions in different ways - some people will say they gave up 5 years ago and have never wanted to smoke since, and others who gave up 20 years ago say it's a battle every day.

No 2 people are alike, therefore they may need different methods of giving up.

The only consistency is that willpower is required for all of them at some point or another - if you don't have any, you're on the back foot.

Personally, I'm no quitter and I'm applying this to smoking.

I understand fully the points you and others make but the point I was making is unchanged - that substitution is not giving up.

I've been there, done the patches, the inhaler, the gum, the cutting down, the NSM cigs (anyone remember those?), the nhs quitting service, and just about every other tactic to give up. It wasn't until I found the desire and willpower to stop completely that i finally gave up. All the other attempts eventually led me back to smoking because they were substitutes and the "smoking" habit was still being practised, albeit with different methods.

At the end of the day I wish anyone who wants to quit the best of luck with their efforts. It's not easy and whatever works for them is what they should use. And if you're a dedicated smoker that's cool with me too. If I could be a social smoker and just have a couple on an evening out I'd still smoke because I enjoyed a cigarette. Sadly I'm an all or nothing sort of bloke so occasional smoking wouldn't have worked for me.

That is true - however a lot of people will successfully give up gradually, or with the use of a substitute - which means you can give up in "layers" - with patches, you get the nicotine your brain craves, which allows you to concentrate (if that's the right word) on giving up the habit of smoking.

Horses for courses I guess. I've given up more times than I care to remember - with patches, without, cutting down gradually... I gave up cold turkey for 5 years which is probably my most successful period - but I wanted to smoke for the entire 5 years...

I have been more than happy puffing away on my substitute electronic cigarette over the weekend without a thought for the real thing. I hope it stays that way when I get back to work.

I'm glad to hear it's working for you. At least you're not harming your health any more. Mind you, I can't say I feel any healthier for giving up, but i'm sure I am.

don't really want to, not liking the recent TP trend against it, are we gonna have threads about how bad beer is for you and how we can ban it and how you can stop drinking soon???????

i think about quitting, but havent got the heart behind it yet. maybe soon with the price of stuff though... maybe after i finish the box i got(no way am i putting a fiver in the bin)

With smoking comes the day when you just go "actually, i dont want to do this anymore" and that is when you will give up. I had that day a few years ago and gave up cigarettes. Had one at my aunts funeral about 4-5 months later and it was foul and horrible and so glad i gave up!

Now, to give up the cigars.....
