Who needs Photoshop ?

I rather think the point is that we see many images of strange and (often) wonderful imaginings, produced using Photoshop techniques.

To then be presented with similar images, it is not unreasonable for the casual viewer to assume Photoshop was used; Photoshop being virtually ubiquitous in this respect. It is, therefore not unreasonable to point out that Photoshop was not used and that the images were produced with skill and dedication by the set designer/artist alone.

I was intrigued by the 'Who needs photoshop" title of the three because there was obviously something worth looking at. I totally missed the actually reference to PS in the article... all I saw was great images created using mental and physical elbow grease. That is something I respect massively.

to my untrained undigital eye ,the images of Jee Young Lee look almost hdr ,not quite right ,in fact almost cartoon like ,,can someone explain how she would have got that look ?

Amazing stuff - must take her AGES to make each one.....

Now I want to see this a step further and see REAL fantasy places photographed.... that would be something :D

Photoshop has only been around since 1990 and already we have a generation of image makers who just have trouble conceiving of anything like this being done any other way.

I agree . It's like the old saying about everything looking like a nail when the only tool you have is a hammer.

On an unrelated note, I managed to make a cheese sandwich without the aid of a cello yesterday.

I like her creativity, she has put thought, time , and effort into her work. Because of photography and the internet i can share in it. i wish my own work, had more thought and craft applied to it.

Another who does not need photoshop here. Discovered this today & seems to fit in with this thread. Set building by hand, limited budget, great motivation & bundles of creativity!

What Kirsty Mitchell has done with her project is amazing. Loads and loads of hours spent creating her costumes and props. But you'd be naive to think theres no photoshop involved. Watch the video of her image "Gaia, The Birth Of An End" she's composited different frames to get details etc... and has had a fair bit of retouching. I think what Kirsty has demonstrated is a very good balance of creating items and pieces and using photoshop subtly to her advantage :)
