Yes
Mine is my granddad, he fought in the second world war for our freedom today, i used to love listening to all his stories about when he was away at war and all of that.

Who are your hero's and why?

Tony

To be honest i got a few (is that allowed?).

Like you my grandfather and great grandfather fought in the great wars and their stories were inspirational.

One of my major heroes is Sherpa Tenzing, 1st Everest Summit with Sir Edmund Hillary. He fulfilled his amibition in life against huge odds and then assisted others so they could achieve their dreams too. Just finished reading a book about his life and it was eyeopening to say the least.

Grandfather again. He didn't fight in WW2, but he did fight in Kenya and Malaya, and again, has some fantastic stories!

But my grandfather is one of hundreds of thousands of heroes, those men and women who've died in the service of this country protecting the freedoms that we all take for granted. Especially those who've died since the cessation of WW2 in even more pointless circumstances. I was lucky enough (read that as on parade lol) to be at the dedication of a new memorial today at the Bovington Tank Museum. It's a memorial for all those brave men from the Royal Armoured Corps who've died in conflicts since 1945. It was truly humbling.

Easy!!! its Superman!

Oh i see what you mean, in that case, my dad. Fireman all his life, but above all, an excellent loving father, who I miss daily.

Having said that, he couldnt fly!

Erm...all the people who fight for the country (past and present), the Police, ambulance, firemen, doctors, nurses and in fact anyone who serves the country and does good, for eg. charity work, so quite a few :)

I'm in awe of what these people do, the sacrifices they make. Awesome people who do the work they do to genuinely help others :clap::clap:

This is confusing now Si, my mate say's he's superman. Or at least one of his exe's apparently remarked one night 'oh Dave, you really are from the planet Krypton'.

My Granddad was in the 1914-18 war as a machine gunner.
His position was over-run and he had to bury himself under his dead mates
because the German troops came around bayoneting the bodies .

He got a dose of mustard gas which buggered his stomach up.

He survived and got a job on the ICI boats as a crewman.
The boiler emergency steam valve stuck and the boilers where going to blow,so he wrapped himself up in Hessian sacking and crawled on top and managed to break it open ,getting scalded in the process.

Now when this MAN was dying of stomach cancer and I was sat with him to give my Mum a rest,(I was 15 at the time) The poor b****r wasn't allowed enough morphine because the Doctor said he was having to much,
(they aren't as bloody strict these days, thank God.)

He lay there and cried for me to help Him.
I have NEVER EVER felt so useless then or since.

That Man was and still is my Bloody Hero.....

My hero is my Dad who died from Leukaemia in 2002. Despite being very ill at the end he always had a smile on his face and had a great sense of humour. He was a great man.

I miss him very much.

He sounds like he was an amazing guy - great story

Lance Armstrong :notworthy:.

Lost my Mum to brain & liver cancer 8 years ago and felt really down as you would expect. After reading 'Every second counts' and 'It's not about the bike', it gave me support in how Lance survived his cancer. I became an avid supporter watching Le Tour each year from start to finish. I'm now proudly sat here with my Livestrong bracelet on and supporting Cancer Reseach in anyway possible.

Ron Jeremy? The porn star?

lmao, fair one I suppose.

Sad to say I don't have one. I have inspirations but nobody I would consider my hero.

My husband and Karen Carpenter, for making me see sense and getting my life back on track.

Also my Son who is the best thing that's happened to me.

I idolise Lance Armstrong, for his feats and in how he survived against the odds, never mind the Tour De France.

Not sure whether he has won without any assistance, but hey, don't want to open another can of worms, the tin opener's been busy enough on other threads

hey Noseybonk said it was his dad, hes mine to, he was my grandad (noseybonk being my dad) and my grandad was a real hero and a fine man and i too miss him.

I don't have a hero (or for that matter, a heroine) but the closest I do have to that is my grandmother. She was just a really good person.

Being a narcissist, obviously I am my own hero. However, I do allow others to feel special now and again.

Rolf Harris but like to think there's a bit of a hero in everyone - parents, kids etc there are certainly some difficult circumstances in life folk are left to deal with.

mine is my dad he is an awsome guy that thinks of others before him self,
he has seen the world before he was 25 and he cooks the most amazing roast dinner :)

My Mum, she worked all around the world whilst single handidly taking care of her two sons who were way too aggresive and she still looks 10 years youger than she is.... She is amazing.

i would also have to say my mum as well as she stuck by me and never left my side going through my cancer treat ment she was there all the time even if i had to go to london
