Hi - I am looking for inspiration regarding shots I want to take of my children (currently 1 years old). I am looking for a photo gallery of children's pictures that I can basically imitate with my own kids. This will help me to improve my technique and I can develop my own style later.

Hope that makes sense.

So, who is your children's photographer (with an on-line gallery)?

Cheers,
Dub

my advice would be to stop trying and just take pictures of your kids. all of the shots I have printed of my kids are just snap shots. if you try and take perfect images you'll loose the moment.

This girl is fantastic. I dont really like studio shots of kids that look like they're hopped up on e numbers but this stuff is fantastic.

I am snapping but I would like to improve my skills at the same time.

BUmping this back up, as soon to shoot my friends kid, and want to get as many ideas as poss, and some inspiration, so please any good children photographers sites apart from those shown, please put up, even the more obvious ones, as I have never done this style of shooting before, and want to experiment a little.

Cheers guys

TBH trying to copy other people's pics, especially where children are concerned, is, IMO, a futile exercise.

All children have their own individual personalities and what may work with one child simply doesn't with another.

When I photograph children I can take hundreds of pics just trying to get a few special ones.

My equipment is nothing special - I have a 450D and generally use a Canon "nifty fifty" and a 28-135mm IS USM.

I normally shoot available light at 1600 ISO.

And I often shoot on Continuous.

If you look in my gallery you can see some pics of children.

In terms of lighting and composition I think it's a very worthwhile exercise. :)

Yes, I work quite a bit with children and you should still have enough skill to be able to get them in the part of the frame you want them in with the light coming from the right direction. :)

Thats the thing, I have never looked into this area at all. I shoot Action Sports and Live music. So coming from that to a baby is a big out of comfort zone experience for me. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, one I am thinking of as well, is the woman who puts babiues in pumpkins and stuff, forget her name, but i think her dad has seen some of that stuff and loves trying that kind of idea as a mess about after the more posed stuff. Anyone help me out, or was it a weird dream last night?
