Hopefully under the right section Mods. I came across a list of repair companys listed on TP whilst doing a Google search on a lens repair the other day, apart from the useful links and contact details people were putting up their own views. Cannot for the life of me find it. Anyway the quote I have received from them is way lower than the other places I contacted, so I would just like anyones views on Fixation if they have used them. If possible turn around time, quality of service and were you happy with the work carried out.
Cheers for any thoughts.

Use them all the time.... wouldn't use anyone else. Every job had been done fast and communication is good.

Just a new AF motor put in a 100mm macro - £180 and about 10 working days... would have Bern quicker but I forgot to phone back to pay :)

Cheers Pat :thumbs: I need a new locking ring put in the EF100-400, they have given me a quote of £45 labour and £26 for the part plus vat, complete clean and re-calibrated. H.Lehmann Ltd want £220 inc :thinking: Now you would have to say that there is a big difference there, I phoned Fixation after getting the quote and she assured me this was correct, but TBE if there is any additional cost for other bits ( Lets hope not :D ) they would contact me first before going ahead.

Took my D7000 there for backfocus adjustment, under warranty.
Ready within 36 hours.
Definitely recommended.

Not necessarily the cheapest, but I've been happy enough with their service. Sometimes they can be a little, ahem, short, on the phone but generally no troubles.

I've always done my repairs via the printable order form - you just fill in details and you can put your payment details so they commence with the repair (it speeds things up) or you can leave it blank so they contact you. They send you a few emails to confirm receipt of the product and the estimate. It's a good system.

I've had hotshoes replaced, new shutters, mirror boxes, numerous lens fixes .... all have been done quickly and at a fair price. We used to use Jessops at work but despite them always seeming to quote £175 for everything (??) they used to take ages - we waited three months for a service on a 30D once!! I'd say turnaround with Fixation, when it's at its busiest, will be no more than two working weeks in general.

Thanks all for that, I am just waiting for one more quote from where I sent the 7D to a while ago. But tbh I think they would be pushed to beat that quote.

I had that repair carried out by Canon at Elstree in September 2010 for a fixed price of £127.50 to include the zoom tension ring, calibration and anything else that needed doing. The price included a six month warranty on the entire lens, not just the repaired part.

They did also offer an alternative of a T&M repair, which would have been cheaper if no surprises were found, but left me exposed to the risk of a higher bill if anything else was wrong, plus the warranty would not have been as comprehensive.

Thanks Tim that is good as well, even that price is nearer to what I would expect to pay.

I've only used Fixation once but they did a superb job. I'd have no hesitation in using them again.

+1 for recommending Fixation. Used them a couple of times and they were quick and provided quality work.

My lens should be getting delivered tomorrow after being repaired at fixation.

I expect it will be fine, but I will post here tomorrow once I have received it and given it a once over :thumbs:

They may be good at their job but has anyone noticed their phone manner?

I've spoken to two different people from there and both of them seemed bored to tears with no real interest in what I wanted to know.

really? ,every time I've spoken to them they were great on the phone

I have used them as well and was told I could wait for my repair which should be about 2 hours

Has anyone used Fixations hire service aswell as their repairs? Am looking to hire a lens for a day to test shoot before purchasing just to ensure it's the right lens buy & Fixation seem to offer the best value with insurance & refundable deposit. Has anyone hired a lens from them that wouldn't mind sharing their experience with me? Thanks.

They're fine, but as with Calumet if you don't have an account you'll need to deposit 100% of the lens' value.

Can you create an account? By 100% of the lenses value d'you mean the full value as if I was buying it? o.O Perhaps I can't afford it afterall D:! They emailed me a reasobable quote a few weeks back.

May be worth having a look at lensesforhire, provided you order at a reasonable time of day the lens turns up very quickly, and the rates are quite reasonable. :thumbs:

@faddius Thank you for the hire suggestion. Just need to take a look around that link :}

I have hired lenses on a couple of occasions without any problem and can recommend them. As has been said, first time you will need to leave a deposit for value of lens (They did accept a credit card). If you are interested, they do a weekend hire from lunchtime Friday until Monday morning. Might give you a bit longer to try out your prospective new lens.

Perfect, thank you for the answer :}

Something else worth considering... Calumet normally refund hire cost if you then purchase the lens. Something to think about anyway. Or at least they do with me. I do hire a lot of location gear from them but I think it's a normal service deal :)

Sorry for reigniting an old thread, but I'm looking to use Fixation to fix a fault with my EF 24-105L f/4 ... As well as repairing the fault do they also clean and calibrate lenses as a part of the same process?

Yup, but it might be an extra charge. Ask them on Monday.

Be warned that they can be grumpy at times but they are pretty good.

Got my Nikon 24-70 repaired, a brand new lens was returned. Need I say more
