who do you use to host

I use clikpic for mine, I'm still in the process of working on it, find them reasonable though!

I use www.1and1.com and www.one.com

One.com have a really good offer at the moment of £9 plus vat for a whole year with unlimited traffic and a free .com name. Also they include an on line gallery creator which is really good.

I'm with Vidahost, have been for 18 months...never had a problem, and any tech support I've wanted has been superb and very quick!

quite a few options then. Im giving 5quidhost a try. Free basic service or upgrade to well, 5 quid per year.

Will hopefully have a lightroom gallery posted up soon.

i have no idea about web designing and all ive done is upload a lightroom gallery. would like to get some sort of introduction page as the lightroom gallery doesnt really allow any sort of free text etc. But it looks pretty cool.

thanks all

I'm using two different hosts. One of which is Streamline and the other is Hostpapa.

I use L22 but I wouldnt know what he charges as I hold him to ransom with baby pics on facebook as he's a relative.

I use www.heartinternet.co.uk they are UK based (which is good for google positioning) and if you are only wanting a very basic site they will even host you for free (once you've bought your domain name from them). There other paid hosting services are well priced too for the quantity and quality of the service.

Compila.com , used them for a few years now on and off, very reasonable rates and in about 3 yrs they have only been down once for 12 hours due to a change in some new hardware at their end.

one.com excellent for nothing..

I'm a reseller with Heart Internet works out really cheap to host as many sites as you want - clients paying covers the reseller fees and makes all my own sites free :D

Is it a pain the back side mate being a reseller as the 1st point of contact would be you for all your clients or do you have a work around?

Not really as I only need a few clients with site management contracts to cover the cost of the reseller package - and nothing much goes wrong at all

Though I have given them the web address for service problems and issues so they usually go there first to see if it is a major problem - most faults take less than half-an-hour to sort out anyway - small websites, small problems :D

5 quid a year for web hosting? You buy cheap, you buy twice. I suppose it depends what the website is for. If it's just for you and a few mates to have a look at your photos, then it might just about suffice but I wouldn't trust the reliability of a 5 quid a year web host. If you intend to use the site to sell yourself and your photographic services, would you trust someone who built your house on stilts made from polystyrene? If you are intending to use it to sell yourself/your photos, spend a bit of money. It doesn't have to be a lot but find a good quality web host and those tend to be hosts that don't call themself 5quidhost.co.uk and those who don't promise unlimited anything.

Hosts I'd recommend are bytemark.co.uk or heartinternet.co.uk. There are plenty more but I deal with these guys and they've never been any trouble. Your website is ALWAYS online and available and your queries are answered promptly - exactly what you want from a web host.

cheers all,

Great input.

Welly, im only trying them as an intro to web hosting. its a completely new field for me and all i have so far is a lightroom gallery uploaded.

gonna design a front/home page thingy at the weekend and try and see what improvemets can be made.

eventually it will be to sell myself and will be a lot better/professional looking web site.

I have to say 5 quid hosts support was amazing. baring in mind im on their freebie package they returned support emails within minutes....MINUTES!

They also logged into my streamline account for me to check that i had changed the DNS thingy correctly etc. Cant fault them!!

will look into something more adequate as the site develops
