Hi all
In response to some people asking me where I ordered it (title), in this thread, I thought I'd start another thread so it is easier to find, and I won't hijack the old thread.

Here it is:

www.tonybeal.com

item description:

19 0z. Vinyl Matt White PVC
2.5m width
£6/meter length

I think its free delivery in Scotland (lucky people) £12 to my place in Bucks.

Tel: 01417732166 ask to speak to Emma or Steven, just ask them about the white PVC that togs have been ordering and they'll tell you which one.

I haven't had mine delivered yet, but a lot of people from another forum are very happy with it, they also say it easy to clean when it gets dirty.

Richie

Mine's delivered today, its quite thick but very flexible.
I'm cutting mine cos its too long (width).
For those who want to see/feel its texture, Im happy to send you a bit of my cutting before you splash out. Just send me a self addressed (stamped)envelope and I'll send you a swatch.

Drop me a PM.:baby:

Edit:

just saw the packing slip and 2.5m X 5m weighs 9kg. just for info.

Thanks for the info strobefreak.
Was looking for a new backdrop and this sounds perfect.
Do you know if they happen to do Gray?
I'm just being Lazy now, you have provided the phone number

@slvrbck :bat:

@Keltic 5m :rules:

I'm sure a stupid question, but I need to ask...

Does the material come with the "loop" at one end for hanging on a backdrop support system? If not, how are you doing this? Needle and thread? ???

No. DIY. I haven't done mine yet so no idea, maybe next week.

Oh, I see ..... So a sewing machine and some glue is probably in order :)

I'd be interested in the solution, since this does seem much cheaper than £200 on a Pro PVC backdrop and also easier to keep clean and flat that while material.

Thanks again..

Wow- thats amazing, I have been looking at vinyl stuff today - are you happy with it?

We use this material in our manufacturing business and glue does not work on it. It is not possible to sew it with an ordinary sewing machine, so I would recommend that you double the edge over and use large eyelets.

The other alternative is to clamp the material onto your pole. I use 4 Manfrotto superclamps for this purpose (and others) The Manfrotto product number is MN035

Jellyhead188 -Yes, though I haven't used it yet. Still looking for a cheap but effective way to hang it.

@hillwalkinggirl and smithphoto - thanks for the great info.

I was thinking of attaching it to a wooden beam at the top of my wall and somehow a roller so i could roll it up when not using it - my living room doubles as a studio!

Hay any photos yet m8 of this stuff ?

Here is an unedited shot taken by the wife (straight out of camera)

Here' a test shot or rather practice shot with a difficult subject:

Here's the setup, need to remove the bed:

I used an old curtain rod and and some curtain ring with clips from IKEA.
I have reduced the width of the Vinyl to 1.8meters as I intended to use it downstairs but changed my mind.

Now time for me to practice....

They are great, I'm still working out how to hang mine! its not coming till Wed and I've got a shoot on Friday!!!! Might have to use my old set up but use it for the floor instead of my bedspread!!!!!

Thanks for the info am really looking forward to using it!

Emma

strobefreak nice photos m8 looks like good stuff. So how tuff is it as in would it rip easy ?. How hard was it to cut and fix up ?
thanks

Can't rip it with my bare hands LOL. But easily cut with scissors. I just used curtain rings with clips to hang it, easier than I thought, then I just roll the bottom if I'm not using it.

Think im going to have to get me some of this stuff is there any joins in it at all ?.
Or is it 1 large sheet thanks

Its 1 large sheet 2.5m width and lenght depeneds on how much you want.

Details as given to my company (we manufacture with it) by the makers.

Nylon Reinforced PVC

Fabric: two ply plain weave polyester, coating: durable lightfast pigmented polymeric resins.
Excellent Dimensional Stability.
High strength and remains flexible.
Resistant to mildew growth, water penetration and most petroleum products.
Care instructions: Clean periodically with mild soap solution and soft brush. Rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid rolling or folding for storage while wet.
Colours: Royal, Burgundy,Red, Dark Green, Dark Grey, Stone, Cream, White.

You need a good pair of scissors to cut it. It's very tough.

I use a similar way to hang my backdrops. Length of plastic plumbers piping and some gaffer tape you can also drill small screws into each end to secure it then roll. I then drill a hole in each end of it and it sits on top of my background supports nicely.

Fold over about 4" of the top of the material, then use a Very High Bond type of double sided tape, available from all good DIY stores about 1" wide along the fold, you should then have enough room to slide a pole through. If anyone gets stuck (no pun intended) looking for some VHB tape, pm me and i will see if i can send you some.

I bet it won't hold for long:shake::shake:

You may be right there:lol:
I have previously hemmed advertising banners using this method, and they are still hanging around a football pitch 2 years later though. This material may be slightly different to my banner stuff though, although it looks pretty similar.

We use the industrial version of this tape to hold things in place on the pvc before stitching it.

We did several trials using this tape in the hope that we could avoid stitching in difficult to access areas, but after a while it just gives up. If you can I suggest using eyelets. Make a fold along the top to make a single hem and then put eyelets through the double layer. We use large brass eyelets but these require a special tool. A good alternative is to go to a camping shop. They usually sell a DIY kit of eyelets to repair awnings and tents with. You could then buy a set of hooks that you hang shower curtains with, or sometimes it's cheaper to buy a complete shower curtain from the £ shop, and then chuck the curtain away.

This is how i did mine, cheap and easier:

PLs. note the staples I used are quite bigish and not ordinary ones. Hope it helps.

Richie, could i take you up on the offer of having a test piece of this, i could come and pick it up as i remember where you live from when i picked up the diffuser

If anybody own this background could they please send a unedited picture with this background on. Thank you!

Little bump'ige. I need to place an order today for some kind of background system to replace my muslin ones. Still interested to know if this creases at all and exactly how white is it? (The Flickr pics don't seem to work anymore.)

Cheers.

In the absence of anyone sensible telling me not to, I've ordered some. They've obviously cottoned on as prices have gone up.

£7pm with delivery within England being £16. If it's more crease resistant than muslin I'll be chuffed.

Now got to get me some of them reflective shower board type efforts and I'm sorted.

Oh dear, I've started talking to myself.........

no eyelets, they said they roll it anyway to avoid sharp folds. I'm planning on keeping it rolled and using a cross-bar between two lighting stands. I'll let you know how I get on. It should be delivered on Wednesday.

Where on the website is it I can't find it:(
