White background help???

'Grey mopping'
- my very own term :) is a means of reducing or removing the grey (underexposed) areas of white flooring around your subject, while leaving enough to act as shadow to prove it's a 3D object and not simply floating in a sea of whiteness

thanks DD - would there be a tutorial on this as im never quite sure how to tidy up grey areas without making a hash of it!?? thanks

There might be

But here's the nub...

Anything on your white floor/background you want to lighten can be best done with the Dodge tool set to highlights, this will whiten the grey without affecting your subject matter as they are usually considerably darker and so unaffected by the Dodge tool. Try it with a soft brush set to 600px. The large & soft brush means that as you get close to your subject it leaves some shadow detail close to them, stopping them 'floating'

For things that are darker and off to the side of the frame, i.e. you're shooting on 10ft wide paper and have to take a few shots showing desks/walls/etc. off to the side, simply use a white paintbrush at 100% to remove them

And that's about it really - just practise a bit :)
