Well got a day off saturday and want to go to a zoo but what one should I go too ? I am in Essex but can drive  I do like tigers but do want a mix.

Should have said been to Colchester zoo loads just want some where eles to go

Whipsnade is great, I visit often, may even head over there Saturday afternoon myself

I know it seems a long way away but only prob an hour / hour trwenty or so, depending on where in Essex you are, but Canterbury?

From what I remember, tigers (one called s***ta - kid you not) 2 otters (SPit and Swallow - again I kid you not) and a load of Gorillas.......

I did get told off though last time I went from some Irate parent whose chav kids were all "look at the monkeys Dad........." - had to correct him... do you see a tail? No? Then it's an ape, not a monkey. Was going to explain opposable thumbs and all that, but doubtful if the father possessed those.............
Hey was only trying to help.

So let me get this straight, on a family day out you can see who wins the fight between spit and swallow while staring at the s***ta

haha, my monitor has now been covered in my coffee as i spat it out in laughter

I know it's a bit late as you are probably already there but my vote would have gone to Whipsnade too. Only problem with this time of year is they all tend to open their new areas at Easter. Whipsnade are opening "Wild Wild Whipsnade" which will feature Wolverine, Moose, Lynx, Wild Boar and I think they are unveiling a new enclosure for the Brown Bears too.

For future reference:

Whipsnade is the best zoo I have been to for photography. Marwell is a bit disappointing at the moment - they are doing a review of their collection and there are a lot of empty enclosures and they don't seem to be doing anything new. Colchester is a good zoo but not so great for photography. Cotswolds is lovely - they have a great walk through area. Havn't made it to Chester yet but that is high on my list for this year along with the aspinall parks.

they have opened a tropical house where there are no cages...monkeys and such run around

There be Sloth in their too
