ok looking to upgrade to a 5d mk11, but which L lens would be equivelent to a sigma 10-20 on a crop body if you get what i mean:thinking: lol

17-40. Price performance at realistic apertures seems pretty similar from what I can tell...

If you don't need the extra few stops then go for a 17-40L they are a cracking lens.

I own one and unless I could ever justify the cost of the 16-35L I wouldn't part with it.

Sharp as a tack and no visible aberrations, a great lens for landscapes.

I can't comment on the 17-40, but the reviews from users are consistently great. I went for the 16-35 on my 5D2, and love it. Perversely, I hardly ever shoot it wide open - f8 - f11 is more the norm, but I get a nice warm glow from knowing that I COULD shoot at 2.8 if I wanted!

I've had a 17-40 for years. Brilliant, tough, reliable. Goes very well on the 5D2.

That glow is just your muscles complaining about all the weight you're lugging around ;)

I would probably get the 16-35, not only for the 2.8 but the 1mm at the wide end makes a surprisingly big difference.

Then again, Samyang 14/2.8 is not bad and cheap as chips, so get that and the 17-40 ;)

+1 for the 16-35 mkII.

For the odd event the extra stop comes in useful over the 17-40.

Not sure you can go wrong with either though.

Good luck with your selection.

I've noticed that a lot of the landscape pics I like are taken with a 17-40, there's no reason or explanation for it. If I were a Canon FF man, I'd definitely have one in my bag.

Ok guys thanks for all the replys, does anyone have a shot from 17mm on a 17-40 and 16mm on a 16-35mm

Andy
