Yes
Did not like the color, layout or functionality of the first one.

Second one was far superior in my opinion on all the above and more

Just to add I really did not like the first one and couldn't wait to get off the page

The second one grabbed my attention immediately, made me want to say on the page and look round

Thanks for that, well as you say-thats good if it kept you interested

I've had Expression as the theme on my animalphoto website up until a few weeks ago. Great to work with and good support from Pexeto, really recommended.

Particulary important for a photo website is that they have managed to integrate the wordpress gallery feature into the theme so you can bulk upload pictures for use in the galleries, a lot of themes you need to do it one by one by one....

I only changed it as I preferred a masonry style gallery structure behind the initial image and couldn't get thrat through Expression.

Cheers Matt, did you feel it lacked anything?

Did you sell your work thru it?

I think you know which one I would suggest :)

The first is much cleaner looking with better fonts. The second one looks a bit dated to me.

Depends what your needs are though, really.

I preferred the structure of my current theme of Portfolio Cover Image -> Masonry Gallery -> Lightbox Picture, but that was just personal preference. I never tried to integrate any sales plugins so can't comment on that.

Otherwise theme was great - I've had a couple from that author and never had a problem.

Cheers Matt, is it quite straight forward to setup? Iam new to Wordpress

It took me a while to get to grips with Wordpress itself, but once I had then the Expression theme was at the easier end of the spectrum to work with. There's some step by step instrctions inccluded for most tasks and I was able to follow them to get the results I was looking for.

With regards to uploading photos. I use Lightroom with the Nextgen plugin. That way using Nextgen gallery I can upload direct from Lightroom using the publish function. That way all I need to do to edit a gallery is change it in Lightroom and click publish :-D

I've used Nextgen quite a bit on my Mountainphoto website. How do you get them there straight from Lightroom, is there a plugin you use?

Matt, iam struggling abit with this expression theme. Iam trying to setup the photos in 'lightbox' but its not working grrrrr :bang:

edit , might be getting somewhere now. Iam jsut playing about with uploading photos and arranging them-but it doesnt seem to allow for you to add photos on an album. Looks like you have to delete the whole album and upload the photos again with the new ones you want added...is there anyway round this?

The gallery bit is normal wordpress functionality rather than the theme, assuming you are on version 3.5 or higher then what you need to do is edit the item with the gallery on it, click on the gallery to bring up the two boxes in the top left corner (Edit and Cancel), then click on edit to bring up the gallery dialog box. Mouseover any image you want to remove from the gallery and a small cross should appear in the top right corner, click that and the photo is removed!

Hope that helps, looking forwward to seeign the end result.

Cheers Matt, yes Iam on the latest Wordpress 3.5

So how do I add more photos to an existing album?

Niether...... If you went for any of those on the colour scheme side clients would think you listen to the colour beige on your Ipod.
fiist is not nice in any form... and the 2nd looks like everyone else..... wordpress looks no different to Zenfolio... which is why i won't be rening..

You want to stand out get a bespoke..... If you want to blend in with 7000 other photographers then it's ok.

Cheers for your input Daryl I've gone with the expression theme. I take your thoughts on board and as Iam just starting out I think it will suit me ok. I can change the colour scheme by the way...

Bit hypocritical much Daryl considering your own websites?

I disagree with what you have said by the way

When adding to the album's do you have to add all the existing photos and then add the extra ones you want to include in the album? Looks the case to me-seems kinda backwards to me! Unless iam missing something...

I've always just added the photos to the media gallery, then selected the ones I want for each album. Not sure what you mean by add all then add extra?

Sorry Matt, I didnt make it that clear. Do you do it by 'add media' in 'portfolio' ?

Will try again here goes,

Ive made a few albums on my site. For example in album 'sports' which has 10 photos, I will want to add to that weekly with 5 new photos. But to do so it looks like you have to add all the images at once so, 15 instead of use being able to add the new ones you want...hope this makes sense! So when you have a large album it would be a pain, I like to arrange all my photos nicely-so have to re-arrange them everything! iam managing at the mo but its taking awhile each time :(

Oh and my URL is jameswhitephotos.com if you want a ganders-its very much work in progress! But please drop by

The way I'd do it is to go to Add Media on the portfolio page, create gallery (if you're just setting it up) and then tick the photos from the media library you want included, or upload them if necessary. The click insert gallery to add it to the portfolio page.

To then add further items back into the portfolio page, click on the gallery in the post area, click on edit gallery in the top left. This brings up the edit gallery box where one of the options is Add to Gallery. Click that and you're back to the photo selection screen where you can either add them from the media library or upload the fresh ones.

Hope that helps, btw back to using expression on my gallery, about 90% through updating it as always struggle to write content for the pages.

Have fun, Matt

Thanks Matt, will try again. What's your URL?

Animalphoto.net is the one I have set up with Expression. Got some photos up but still working on the rest of the content!

Nice like it, some great work on there too.

Do you know if you can you add a sliding banner on the homepage?

Can you tell me, how you add the twitter and facebook like links under the photos? In the lightboxes

In terms of the slider - never tried. The support is pretty good though if you go to the website and ask I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.

On the lightbox links I'm embarassed to say that just happened! Not sure I did anything specific to make them that way. I'm using both Photomosaic (a paid plugin) and Nexgen Gallery, it may be that one of them has added it??

Ok thanks again, do you use any other plug-ins aswell Matt?

Main ones I've used are Nextgen, Photomosaic, limit login attempts, yoast SEO, bulletproof security and backwp up. I think there's a thread around here somewhere of plugins used that's worth a look, but on my phone so a bit hard to search and find it.
