Hi Guys,

I know this has been asked (and answered) a number of times, I have spent the last few hours going through various posts and have got some good information. However, here is what I am looking for; a simple point-and-shoot waterproof compact camera with good picture quality. I have two holidays booked this summer, one is kyaking and coasteering and the second snorkeling.

I need to be able to take pictures underwater, and I doubt I will need the camera to operate more than a few meters underwater. Since I will be focusing more on the activities than photography I need to be able to snap as and when without having to fiddle too much with the settings. I have other cameras but I wouldn't even consider housing for my SLRs, it just seems too much of a hassle.

All manufacturers seem to have options available, such as Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax etc. Which one in your opinion is ideal for me. My max budget is £150.00 :(

appreciate your help!

Sid

I have used disposable ones before for diving and wakeboarding
You can pick them up for under a tenner and got some surprisingly good
Shots from them bought a couple then if drop or broke when
Fell off wasn't to bothered apart from the lost pics

Alternative is to get one of those waterproof bag-type cases and use it with an old P&S? Much less than £150 and you won't be to upset if it goes badly wrong...

My original "waterproof digital compact" proved not to be after only a few uses (an Olympus Mju770SW) so has now been replaced by a Canon D10 (which hasn't seen much underwater use yet but does produce better pics than the Oly ever did both above and under water. I also have an old Minolta APS U/W compact which gives decent pics but the ultimate quality is determined by the film used.

I had the same query a couple of weeks ago. I ended up buying a reconditioned Olympus Tough 6020 for Just under £100. Its 14mp, 5x optical zoom, Water proof to 5m and dual image stabilisation. For the money its a bargain. It's an import from america so you may have to pay import tax but that still only works out at £20 if you have to pay it.

I can recommend the go pro hd which goes above and beyond what your looking for as it also takes hd video and is real value for money, it will shoot a 5mp pic or can be set to take a pic every 1 sec or longer. Best of all the thing is waterproof to 60m and is pretty indestructible.

This pic was a still taken at hd res from the camera while being swamped with waves.
