Which walkaround shoulder bag ?

I need to buy a shoulder type bag thats more compact than my current Mini Trekker. I know thats not exactly a huge bag to be carting around but i find it a bit inconvenient for city or weekend breaks, or a day out drive in the car.

Its great when i want to carry a fair few lenses, including the Sigms 80-400 OS at nearly 2Kg, but its a bit cumbersome the rest of the time.

I'm looking for something to housey my Canon 5D with 24-105IS L Lens attached and space for my Sigma 17-35mm f2.8, plus a few filters, spare battery etc. In the next few months i could well add a flashgun and a battery grip to the list of contents :eek:

I'm not too keen on the slingshot style bags, I'm thinking more along the lines of Lowepro Nova A2/A3 (bit traditional looking, or is that old fashioned :shrug: ) or the Crumpler Pretty Boy (XL/XXL)

I've read the Crumpler XXXL reviews on here - will save yet another link being posted ;) - i think thats a bit big for my needs. I'm concerned that Crumpler are a bit optimistic with their capacity claims for the XL, so is the XXL the one for me ??
 
If you havent got a grip attached then I would go for a crumpler pretty boy xxxl (it sounds much bigget than it actually is).

Its my light day trip bag and well made too, it doesnt stand out as the obvious camera bag which is also a good thing.
 
I recently got the Lowepro Flipside 200
Not a shoulder bag, but a backpack, however its quite small & so slim and lightweight.
I havent used my Mini Trekker since getting this, I love it.

I've got the Lowepro 4AW and strangely similar kit :) 5D 24-105 attached. Sigma 15-30mm filters, three batteries and grip all go in that quite nicely.

The other combination I use it for is 5D, 24-105mm, 100mm macro, 70-200mm and nifty fifty plus assorted batteries and filters. No grip or Sigma though.

I also have a Redsnapper backpack that has a similar capacity as it quite comforable for carrying that little lot and a jacket.
 
I would go a stealth reporter over a nova. I had a Nova 5 for a while, but eventually switched to to a Stealth Reporter 300. I can easily fit a 5D + grip, 24-105 35 F1.4, 17-40, and flash in it with room for batteries and bits. The advantage is you can attach some slip-lock attachments if you need to add a water bottle, or a lens case for a 70-200.

The main reason for going this over a nova is the quick access zip on the top, which makes changing lenses so much easier.
 
I have the Lowepro stealth reporter 200 AW which I find ideal for 40d plus 2-3 lenses and accesorries.

Alos got the Lowepro Nova 1 which is good for body and 1-2 lenses.

But I think the stealth reporter fulfills size requirements, and is a shoulder bag.
 
The Lowepro slingshot 100 will fit my 400D +grip, 50mm, 17-85mm IS, +one other lens. There's also room in there for my Wallet, phone, mp3 player, etc.

I'd definitely go for the XXXL...would probably be a bit of a squeeze to fit in all the stuff you want in the XL. I have the XXXL and can fit in a 40D, 70-300 and 17-85 plus cables, batteries etc - not sure that lot would fit into a XL as nicely :shrug:

Bit big for my needs, but the system 3 looks a reasonable size for what i need to package..

Think its toss up between this and a Crumpler, probably the XXL. Off to check them out on the highstreet then.
 
WEll not made it to have a look at the options, but was in Aldi at lunchtime and they have bags on offer for £7.99 each - the smaller two aren't much use for anything other than a small camcorder, a bridge camera or maybe a smaller dSLR with kit lens.

~The largest one (all £7.99 btw) appears about the size of the Lowepro Nova 1 - it comes with two velcro attachable pouches, a cylindrical one for a lens (maybe a little small in diameter for my Sigma 17-35 f2.8), and another a rectangular pouch that would probably just take a flashgun.

Well for 8 squid i thought i'd give it a go - might be in the bin next week, but worthy of a punt i thought.
 
Well the Aldi bag idea wasn't a great success - even the largest bag is only any use for a samll dSLR like at 400/450d with the kit lens. The attachable lens case is fairly small diameter so will only accept kit type lenses (a Canon 35-80mm EF is about as big as it will take i would guess).

So its now holding my camcorder, and the rectangular attachable case is now employed as the case for my gf's Canon A570IS compact. So £8 not wasted i suppose.
 
After trawling the internet shops and half a dozen camera shops this weekend where i managed to only see one Crumpler bag (a PB XL which was so small i couldn't believe how inaccurate Crumplers claims are for contents) - i've bought a Pretty Boy XXXL from ebay seller - £39.99 and £5 postage so a good price - should have it tomorrow.

I've got this and it's frustratingly just a tiny bit too small for me, it's great if i'm carrying my 30D, 24-105L and 10-20 and a couple of filters, but when i take my 100-400 out i have to take my lowepro mini trekker.
 
I went looking at crumpler bags today, and i was shocked at how small the XXXL was. Still plenty big enough for my needs though, so i ordered an olive one from www.worldofbags.co.uk.

Getting mine straight from the supplier, as they had none in stock :).

Mine is going to hold a 400d with 18-55, 24mm, 50mm and 70-200mm lenses.
 
XXXL arrived by 10am this morning - wrapped well in black plastic bag to keep the rain off - full marks to SRS Microsystems, for price and delivery - top ebay seller.

and the bag - about the right size - i hate carrying the camera without lenses attached and that for me was the problem with the smaller sizes - at least the XXXL allows me to get the 5d and 24-105 in and room for 17-35 f2.8 Sigma, flashgun and a few extras like spare batteries. Adding the 80-400 OS Sigma might be a challenge but thats why i have the Lowepro mini trekker :D
