I have a YN467 on the boat from China and I have decided I should probably get a proper stand and umbrella. I do have a spare tripod I can use for now with the supplied table stand so ordering from china is fine.

The recommended stand seems to the the one for a tenner on Amazon. Simples.

What's not so clear is which umbrella and bracket is recommended for the "I'm tight" budget. While I'd like to just get something cheap I'd rather not spend on something that won't last 5 minutes even if it is only £10 posted for the both.

Is something like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/34-Diffusion-...ent_RL&hash=item1c17c9f83e#ht_3432wt_912goign going to last me at least long enough to decide what I like, or am I better off spending more now on a named brand version. If so what's the recommendation.

Also not sure if I should get a shoot through or silver reflective, I have seen conflicting advice. Lots on here say shoot through but Strobist 101 recommends silver for less light loss, which sounds sensible as the 467 only has a real life GN of about 20 at ISO100.

Calumet do an excellent wee umbrella adapter which comes complete with a clamp-type coldshoe and the spigot you will need to attach it to your tripod and it's (or was last time I looked) on sale for about £13, down from £20

I had seen that one and was tempted, what was delivery times like? They say its UK based but I take the with a pinch of salt.

i ordered xmas day and they arrived yesterday, taking into effect bank holidays thats not too bad for free p&p. did come from a UK address according to the post marking. return address is a PO box.

The same seller also does another one for slightly cheaper:

Looks to be a reasonable design, but can be had for about £4 if you are will to wait for one from China.

Those are pretty naff.

Pay the extra and get the £12 one from calumet. Worth it.

Umbrellas, hmm, buy a few of the cheap ones from dealextreme.com for $4 posted each http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5123
when you're on a budget, and then save up for some calumet brand ones :)

get it from here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metal-Tilt-Sw...uipment_RL&hash=item230abf40d1#ht_3120wt_1141

instead, legit UK dealer and cheaper :)

same thing but comes with a decent metal cold shoe instead of the plastic one:

calumet still win imo though, great company :)

The metal one looks nice, and seems like good value too as it looks built to last.

edit: Once it arrives should I still put a bit of tape on the cold shoe despite using the RF-602 or not worry about it as even if I do fit a flash straight in theres a gully to clear the pins.

My holder came today, very impressed. Nice and solid and should hold position well. I like the button to prevent it falling off by accident. My RF-602s also came from YongNuo and the fit to the receiver was excllent (well once I have turned the slider but the right way round).

Also noticed my YN467 (which also arrived today) has a metal foot now which is a nice bonus.

Can't wait for work to finish so I can go back home and try it all out properly.

only just saw this thread, I have all of the ones mentioned the last and best quality being the Calumet (Manfrotto copies).

Looks like you chose http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metal-Umbrell...uipment_RL&hash=item255e00dbbc#ht_3028wt_1141 in the end, which was my second purchase and absolutely fine I just didn't get on with the smaller screws to tighten and loosen things.

The Calumet Manfrotto copies I have now are by far my recommendation for anyone...

Edit: @Graham the ones I ordered btw from Calumet in Germany didn't come with cold shoes.

Well my cheap umbrella came from Deal Extreme a mere 6 weeks late and it was broken in two. Nice. I have reported it but seeing as it took them 6 weeks to respond to the fact it wasn't here and added to the fact I have never seen such poor a poor quality product I have written it off and will try find something better.

I still don't have a huge budget but as I am already buying twice I'd rather not buy thrice. The big names all seem to retail at about the £17-20 which seems a lot if I am honest (). Is there anything worth buying in the £10ish range or will this result in a third buy? I am hopping that someone like callumet do a half decent own brand item but I cant seem to find anything in the middle ground.

Failing that can some one recommend me what I should be looking at.

got my silver reflector from 7dayshop.com cost £20 quid and build quality is good ,but also got a £5 shoot thru from dealextreme quality is not a patch on the silver but it will do a turn for in home use.
