Hi all,

I have a tripod at the moment but it is just a £10 one from 7dayshop.
My girlfriend is saying that she could get me one for christmas, :D
but i have about a £50 budget. The tripod i have is alright, but would like something that might last a bit longer and a bit sturdier, (but dont use it enough to justify a hefty price tag)

i have seen two Manfrotto, does anyone have any of these? also what are they like?

either this one. Clicky
it comes with a build in head, but doe the centre column invert?

or spend a bit more and get this one"Clicky"without a head and then maybe buy a head at a later date.:shrug:

Cheers
Chris

I'd save up some more cash if I were you, £50 won't get you a great tripod and you'll most likely end up buying a better one pretty quickly (annoying your gf in the process!)

have you looked at the red snapper ones in the for sale section, there bang on £50 with a TP 10% discount to active members.

they look ace and everyone loves them, im getting one soon for my birthday.

Redsnapper is the way to go, get a head too you won't regret it. Unless you buy 2nd hand you won't get anything close for the money.

ok thanks guys, i will look onto the red snapper one just now, i thought i was being a bit tight ( i am Aberdonian after all)

cheers.

i had my cheap one out on my mates roof top last night and im pretty sure i was getting crap images due to the wind blowing the camera about, i hope so anyway.

just looked at red snapper, they look great, especially at that price.
plus i dont want to upset the girlfriend by having to buy another new one in the near future.

i notice there are two different ball head types, ther is the ball head and the three way ball head, does anyone know which one would be best?

cheers.

Right I have found another one I like, it is a Giottos, it’s a Christmas special comes with a 3 way head,
I think it looks great and also the centre column can be inverted,

Any thoughts on this one? Are Giottos a good make?

Cheers

I got the 785B MODO TRIPOD from jessopd, but it was far too unsturdy for holding my 40D, the legs wobbled about and the head wasnt strong enough either.

I went with the redsnapper tripod & ball head, great quality & very sturdy.

£100 for both, but you get a 10% discount if you are a TP member.

The 785B is ideal if you use it for the purpose it was designed for.It is a very small compact little tripod, ideal for chucking in your holiday hand luggage. If you want to mount a heavy combo on it, then it sure as hell ain`t no good, I use it for weekend breaks away and it served me fine in Florence with my D200 and 10-20. It is unsteady at full whack, but you must surely be able to ascertain that from its price, max load and specs?

right well it is between the Giottos and the Redsnapper,

lookign at the specs the red snapper is coming out on top.

its lighter
hold heavier weight
closes up to smaller size.

so looks like it will be the redsnapper with ball head.

cheers for all the advise :D

as another option chris, do what i did get a ball head from ebay, i got a benro bh-1 for £7, prob not as good as snapper one but worth looking at.
