At the moment I'm using a VERY old tripod that was given to me 2nd hand for my binoculars when i was about 10 (32 now).

So i think maybe I should consider getting a new one.

Is a £100 budget going to get a reasonable one? I don't plan on doing bags of landscape work or many long exposures so i don't want to spend OTT.

Any suggestions?

Redsnapper seem to be the best value for money - 10% discount for TP members (except on special offers apparently). The tripod is great but I'd prefer a better head than the one I have (3 way). If I was buying again, I'd probably get the ball head and the 4 section (as then it's small enough for hand luggage :)) one here:

Oh - look - less than £100 ;)

Benbo.

I'd never go back to a centre column tripod now.

found this the other day on this forum

Just saw over at HUKD a post that Jessops have reduced the Velbon Sherpa 600 tripod from £89 to £29, available for store collection only. (also use the voucher mentioned further down in the threads to get another 5% off)

Thanks for this mate, good solid reviews and and for a good name tripod I was tempted to buy a few lol just stuck with the one.

Ah nice one, that'll do the job for the time being at least. picking one up in the hour!

the code jessops5 worked for me.

Crikey - that's a good deal.... I feel like buying it just as it's such a bargain

Just picked it up, metal. decent weight. quality feels very good to me (compared to my old one). comes with a carry bag, 2 year warrenty. Very pleased for the money. reviews give it 8.8/10 - and that was at its original price.

i resivered this offer at my local store.

but they gave me the 450r. I questioned them and said i thought it was the 600r, but i was told the 450r was the one on offer.

what are the differences between the 450 and 600 please

The one I recieved is the 750R - i bet they are just using up whatever ones they have left in stock which is why on their website it says the brand not the model.

I use a velbon sherpa 750 and thinks it's well worth the money.

Yeah it seems very good, warehouse express has it on for £99 so I'm feeling pretty chuffed with my £27.55 bargain!

I have just reserved online and picking it up shortly if it can take my 7D with 50-500 bigma on :p

If I bring it home I will let you know which it is.

Well I am back in the office and............I have my new tripod!!!

It is the 750R and I am very VERY happy with it. I cannot believe it is £29!!! I is very well made and nice solid metal. It's about 2kg so not the lightest but for £29 it is amazing.

They also had the 600 in stock and that was still at full price

The lady serving me was confused with the price and when I asked the manager why so cheap he said it's coz they want to sell loads.

Massive  for this thanks for posting the offer!!!

:shake: None in my local store in Derry :bang:

Johny, Ballymena biglad!!! I got mine yesterday!

Awww the 750 :(, i am guessing thats a step up from the 600R. Oh well I still got a bargin too lol. Different areas must be selling different models. Very strange, must be so they can hit sales targets, I am sure people would have bought it at half price.... oh well I aint complaining.

hmmm I had a look and it seems they are very similar...the 600 can go higher and lower and is lighter but the 750 folds smaller and is only slightly less high. Full price the 600 is £89 and the 750 £99.
