Looking for a small and easy way to set up my SLR when travelling, the Gorillapod one looks interesting and useful, especially for awkward ND shots.

Any recommendations on a particular model or another brand?

Many thanks in advance. :)

I have a Gorillapod SLR Zoom. It's good but I don't think its necessarily a replacement for a tripod though there are circumstances where they may be interchangeable. If you do go the gorillapod route, I would strongly suggest also getting an ball head otherwise framing becomes very difficult.

I keep looking at these and wondering if they'd be any good for traveling. Reviews seem ok.

Instead of those; a bean bag will give better support, is lighter and is cheaper.

Will make my usual suggestion of a Velbon Ultra or Maxi, both light, fold up small and quite stable given their size

I've one of these Trek-Teck Tpod & have had a D700+MB-D10 7 70-200mm VRII with no real hassles... Even reviewed it on Amazon as well :naughty:

Is handy and stands quite tall as well 13in iirc when fully extended an that earth magnet is extremely strong as well....

I was thinking the same thing... Hence my OP was 1 minute later in the making than yours....

we cant do everything for those who ask - let them do some work :p

The beanbag idea is one I like, but won't be too great for angling up and down - will consider though as it seems ideal for a few situations, just not all.
