Which tripod for long exposure, large and heavy is ok.

I have a 60D that I use for evening/night landscape shots. I mostly use a 70-300mm lens and take a lot of 30secs+ exposures at between 200-300mm

The tripod I use at the moment is a 7d@yshop £15 jobby, so have decided to treat myself to a new tripod.

My requirements are.....

Size and weight, not an issue. I will not be walking around with this. It gets taken out of the boot of the car, walk for 30 feet and set up. So even if it weighed 10kg, that's fine.

I'm 6ft tall and would like to be able to have the camera at eye level without stooping.

Ideally, i t would have a hook underneath for adding ballast.

Must have a 3way head, not interested in ball heads.

My budget is about £100.

Any ideas chaps?

TBH I got my ideal tripod, a Benbo, you can stick it anywhere, 2 legs on the ceiling and one on the floor and shoot the U bend in the toilet. Some find em hard to use but I love it. You can get any head that you prefer seperatly.
 
If the tripod weight isn't an issue then with the kit you've mentioned (not over heavy) your stated budget should certainly get you what you need.

Other than Manfrotto....

Redsnapper (available with discount I think on here) are good and I can certainly vouch for Slik.

I have a Slik Pro 700 DX which was great. It's great if you're tall and will support way over your mentioned kit if you ever upgrade. A quick Google might show it to be over budget but dig about and you should be able to get it for around £100 which includes a very sturdy 3 way head.

A nice feature is the vertical column. It 'splits' leaving a short stubby section - allowing you to splay the legs and get really low.

Thanks Phil, the 700DX certainly seems to fit the bill, but no hhok underneath for adding ballast?

Going by the reviews, perhaps it doesn't need it. Seems to be a very solid tripod.

It's certainly going onto my short list.

Another vote for the Redsnapper... I have the carbon one which is a little out of your price range, but the ally one is still a cracker.. I use it with an 460 MG head...

Looking at the Redsnappers, is there much difference between these two tripods? Also, is there much difference between the heads?

This combo is £50, whereas, This combo is twice the price at £100
 
I went for the £100 combo the tripod is nice and tall for me (im 5'8") and fully extended its too tall which is what i wanted. It is mega stable, good build quality although a bit heavy (which i new anyway) not so keen on the head but i wasnt planning on using it anyway. For £100 though i thought its a really good buy.
 
I have just taken delivery of a Giottos MTL9251B tripod with MH5011 3 way head kit.

Only set it up in the living room this afternoon, so not used it "in the field" yet, but it certainly looks and feels the part.

Bought it from Amazon on Friday for £77 inc delivery, and it was delivered at lunch time today. Fantastic service
 
I have the same Giottos. It does have a sprung loaded hook to add weight & is pretty stable.

Also the most useful feature is the ability to turn the centre column to horizontal. This means you can splay the legs & get the camera really low & away to the side.

It's a very versatile feature.
 
Well, going by the comments on here, and the reviews I found around 'tinternet, I decided to go for the £100 Redsnapper. Should have it tomorrow.
