Which Tripod around £100

Can anyone recommend a decent quality tripod not to heavy to carry around for a beginner upto the value of say £100

I have a Redsnapper 284 tripod and a cheap RSH-24 panning head, I can fully recommend the 284 tripod but suggest getting a better head from them than the cheapest one. I've just purchased the ball head from them which looks to be a lot better.

You can get the 284 and RSH-12 ball head for £100, and the build quality is very good.

I just bought a Redsnapper for £100 with a ball head - seems really good to me.

Not used it in anger yet, but I've had a play and it feels pretty solid without being overly heavy and the components look good quality. I did look around and read up a bit and they seem the best bet at the moment for this price range.
 
Does redsnapper not offer a discount too?

I got the same Manfrotto combination, and although it is stable and well made I also find the head a pain to set up and adjust. That's probably why they are being sold cheap.

Which ball head did you get? Is it good?

I use a manfrotto 190XPROB with 804RC2 head. More than your budget but will last me 10 years and is brilliant. A good tripod will make your life way easier. Go into a decent shop and try a few out, before you decide!
 
Thumbs up for Redsnapper. I have a RS283 and it's a good solid tripod and if you want to spend 100 pounds you could also buy a ball head.
 
Silly question for those with the ball heads, the slanted knob locks in the ball head panning movement. The other 2 (one big one small) stops the ball from moving. Whats the use of having 2 knobs instead of just 1 ??

One locks and unlocks....

The other maintains a tension on the ball....

This is to provide smooth and controlled movement...
 
Go for a manfrotto 190XPROB...you wont regret it
