Which triggers

The point Graham (Flash In The Pan) makes regarding batteries is a very good one. The transmitter for the 602 uses a specialist battery (can't remember the ID number) which means I have to carry a couple of spares, as well as the extra AAAs for the receivers.

Not heard anything against them since they fully launched. The first comments were made during the initial launch period, and I'm not sure if it was a quality control issue with the first batch or not, but I haven't heard anything regarding performance issues since.

I use RF603's and they've been very good for me so far. Haven't failed to fire yet and I've used them for a couple of hours non stop.

As said the batteries swayed me! :)

Phottix Strato every time for me (I'm sounding like a broken record now)

Very, very reliable over range and indoors where there are lots of signals from phones and routers (etc) and they're very well made. They've also survived drenchings of biblical proportions, something my Skyports couldn't do. The TTL pass-through on the Tx unit is handy for TTL fill flash. The new 5-in-1 version (the mk2) has an on/off switch for the TX, which is handy, and they take AAA batteries, which you can get everywhere these days. I'd say that from a set of IKEA batteries (10 for a quid) I get about 1000 fire signals sent and received

Are the phottix available for sale in the UK now then?

Yep - the distributor is called intro2020. I bought mine direct from the phottixstore; didn't have any issues with paying import duty and the order took about six days to arrive from HK. Impressed.

Cotswoldphotographic are also doing one called an Ojecoco that is vey similar but has some kind of HSS function that allows use of flash at higher SS than maximum sync on both CAF and NAF systems.

Last time I looked on phottix's site it still said not available to the uk.

Can't beat an up to date website :D

Might be something to do with the Intro2020 deal but I had no problems ordering direct from HK. Think that was back in Jan/Feb, so a fair while ago - things have a habit of changing though :)

Usually though if a country is excluded by the manufacturer it's something to do with money and licensing.

I wonder if somebodies wifi doorbell goes off every time you take a shot :D

Some manufacturers also have agreements in place with their importers, effectively protecting the importers from being undercut by those wishing to import their own.

A bit of a sod really :bang:

intro2020 only list the Phottix plato system on their website, so i'm still guessing that the Strato system isn't supposed to be in the uk yet  :exit:

Seems very odd, especially as the strato is so sought after.

Not many doorbells where I usually shoot

RE: the 'not available in the UK' bit on the website, I can't recall seeing that when I ordered but I've just tried to put an order through (didn't quite get to paying for it) and it never stopped me - took me right through to the PP log-in screen.

Does seem strange though that there is no that disclaimer on the website....

Funny things wireless devices.

I have a work colleague that was blighted by them. His neighbour on one side had a garage alarm system that stopped his cars remote from operating unless the car was parked 20ft further down the road, and his neighbour on the other side set his doorbell off every time he used a fancy electronic steering system on his caravan. I think he was ready to declare war on China at one point :D

I feel like that with my router - someone in another street must be using Phottis Strato's, as it keeps crashing :lol:

That's the mk2 version, which is a bit more polished. Plus, they are backward compatible with the mk1, which is a good touch :)

Is there any significant difference between the mk2 and mk1?

Can purchase mk1 for £60 which looks to be a good price

Yup. TTL pass through for one.

Yup, forgot that the MkI can TTL as well.

The full difference is:

"The new Strato II Multi has added four groups, a transmitter off switch and increased operating range (150m) since the original Strato. With these extra features, the new triggers are $15 more expensive, per kit, than the old ones."

From Lighting Rumours.

Strato 2 also has locking foot on the receiver, which is very useful.

True. One of the most annoying things about the 603s is the lack of one. Oh for 50p extra in production costs! :)

The Cactus v5 is also a good system and worth a look. Each unit can act as either a transmitter or receiver, they use AAA batteries and work very well (I've had mine for more than six months and then have been almost 100 percent reliable on my Canon).

I also like that they work with pretty much any flash.

A bit more expensive than the 602/603 triggers and a bit cheaper than the Strato triggers, but I do think the locking ring alone makes them worth the extra price.

Does anyone know if I can trigger the RF 603's via the PC sync rather than the hotshoe on a speedlite?

Basically, I want to have two speedlites to trigger off one trigger, what's the best way to do this?
