Looking to take my Fuji xe-1 rather than my 5dmkii when I have a short break in North Wales this year.

In order to travel light I don't want to lug my Manfrotto 190xPROB with me so am looking at something light and relatively cheap.

Have narrowed it down to these two:

Cullmann Nanomax 230T Compact Travelpod with CB6.1 Ball Head for System Camera
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cullmann-Na...TF8&colid=277UJN8NJH3HW&coliid=I1WZWX3UI42WOY
£47.44

&

Slik Sprint Mini II GM Tripod
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slik-Sprint...TF8&colid=277UJN8NJH3HW&coliid=I3JBMSKNFT7FLW
£53.60

Wondered if anyone had any opinions or perhaps other suggestions.

Many thanks

For £50 you won't get anything decent. I've spent the last 3 weeks looking at all the different travel tripods and half decent ones start at around £100. For example, the Velbon Ultra Rexi-L at £99 which gets very favourable reviews http://www.amazon.co.uk/Velbon-Ultra-Rexi-Travel-Tripod/dp/B003N3VLU4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388566167&sr=8-1&keywords=velbon ultra rexi l , but of course it depends if you can up your budget.

This isn't for my dSLR though just my little fuji xe-1, for a few long exposures along the north wales coast....

I had a play with the one in Currys and i quite liked the head too... was very easy to use. I was on two minds to buy one just to stick in my bag and may still go back and get one!

You won't regret one of these as part of your kit it's quicker and easier to set up then the bigger tripods (mines the xprob) and I'd say just as steady!! That's the reason I bought mine just to throw in my bag defo worth the money I'd say!! I use it that much I've considered selling my heavier one

I got myself a Manfrotto 394-PQ, (PC world / curry's) £59.00 last October for a trip, as I did not want to lug my heavy 055xprob around Snowdonia, its small, 4 section legs, light, comes with a cheap (replaceable) ball head, and as a Manfrotto plate so can fit directly to both my cameras and macro collar, I made a small adjustment to the centre column by fitting a hook to hang my bag on to make it more stable, I always use it when not using a big lens.

If its only a little csc and not too heavy have a look at the hama traveller mini pro, small, light, little ball head and a carry case for about £20! Worked a treat for long exposures with my V1 recently

Think I am tending towards the VANGUARD Nivelo 204SL 4-Section Tripod of 100cm with bag.
Only 0.6kg, packs down to 30cm, looks perfect for compact systems.

I have this one as well as a standard Red Snapper. Not the most study of tripods but it fulfils my 2 requirements which is to be light and small. Perfect for travel as I can fit it in my Lowepro Passport Sling.

Hi all

first post here after reading this thread. I've looking for a cheap travel tripod and opted for the Vanguard Nivelo - £32 new with smart padded carry bag. It arrived today and on first glance looks very good. I usually use a 190xprob and obviously this is nowhere near that weight so less stable, but it does appear to be very well made and pretty solid. The real bonus in terms of a travel tripod are as follows:

1. Weight - 665g including bag
2. Size - 12in long when folded
3. Very quick to set up as the legs have a 'twist-lock' mechanism
4. Looks and feels well put together, nothing loose or wobbly

Downsides are that the head is a bit basic and does not have quick release (though it has a large thumbwheel to screw into the camera base). Height when fully extended is only about 4' but I can easily live with that. It's aimed primarily at mirrorless cameras though it takes my D7100 with 18-200mm fairly comfortably. That being said I don't think I would walk away and leave it in any kind of wind as it is nowhere near as stable as the 190xprob!

But overall this is a travel tripod which can easily be taken anywhere and that is the biggest plus for me. Time will tell if it stands up to use in the field but it looks good at face value. At £32 delivered I dont think I could do better!

I got mine yesterday and took the xe-1 out to a local church at lunchtime to test it out quickly - seemed great for the money and will hopefully put up an image later to show what I got with it....like you said the Head is a bit basic but for a CSC / travel option I think it will do the business....

After a few weeks of looking for a travel tripod for my XE2, I too have order a Vanguard Nivelo 204BK, £32.99 delivered.

If your willing to shop around you could pick up one of these for around the £75 mark: Part #: 732CY-A3RC1

Alternatively this is a very lightweight tripod: Manfrotto MKC3-P02 and much cheaper.

I have both. If it was for just general stuff and nothing too serious, then I would go with the cheaper one as it weighs next to nothing.

I'll second that I've got one of these and love it I use it so much more that the xprob one I've got I also bought from Currys as mentioned
I'll third that suggestion, for a CSC or small DSLR (I used mine with a 550D and a 10-22mm lens, and I think that's about the practical limit)

It's a great little tripod for light work (max payload is about 1.5kg) but bear in mind that the pistol grip and thumbwheel give you a great deal of convenience at the cost of precision. It's light, folds up small, and it's very quick to put up and take down.

And at less than 40 nicker, it's hardly an expensive mistake.

I looked at this one and was very tempted (my other tripod is a Manfrotto and I'm very pleased with it). What swung me towards the Vanguard Nivelo was the size and weight : 12 inches packed down versus 18 inches, and almost half the weight of the manfrotto (665g versus 1150g). Not massive differences but I do a lot of walking /wild camping and this fits that much easier into a backpack or travel holdall.
