Which to keep.... and why?

Yes
So I'm in the middle of a big film camera rationalisation. All of the Mamiyas are going, well maybe not both ZMs and possibly not the last Prismat. All of the folders are going, the rangefinders are going and I shall be content to forever shoot 35mm film with Olympus OM 1, 2 and 4 bodies. Don't start me off on an OM3 hunt! I might even let go the Oly Trip, that's how much I enjoy the OM experience. I love the ergonomics, I love the results.

I'm looking at my Canon EOS 1N with battery grip and EOS 3. Both work perfectly, the 1N came via a cash converter shop, the 3 from another photography forum and was stated to have formerly belonged to a Police Department in the Lebanon.

I keep them because I continue telling myself that I can use all my Canon L glass on them but the reality is that I use them perhaps once a year, taking advantage of autofocus to capture the rapidly moving 3-yr old grandson. I love the heft of the 1N but altogether I get no excitement from the "point and shootyness" of them. I might as well grab an EOS digital body.

Should I keep one? Which one should I keep?

No. Neither. Send them both to me

In all seriousness if they're getting so little use I'd suggest keeping them might be an exercise in hoarding, if you know what I mean.

H'mm.....keep what is going to be a good investment and sell everything you will never use.

Well I can send you an invoice through paypal or we can go straight to BT? :naughty::naughty:

I've done with hoarding. In photography and in life. I'm 60 this year and I want only the things which I enjoy around me.

H'mm.....keep what is going to be a good investment and sell everything you will never use.

I don't see them as investments in the sense of shooting ahead of inflation. But then who knows? Looked what happened to the price of Austin Healeys 5 years after I sold mine...

Besides, I'm not an investment kind of guy. I want to use and enjoy my gear. That's how I came to film photography, tired of having truly collectable
historic rifles locked away out of sight.

Good advice, but that will boil down to keep what you hate and sell what you love.

I find that going through these stages of rationalistic views on the equipment we have returns to bit us in the backside in a few years. :D

Keep them all and use them once a year.

I've recently had a rationalisation of my cameras, beginning to think the way forward is just to get rid of most things. If it hasn't been used in 12months you don't need or want it, well that's my theory, problem is I can't keep to it.

make a emotional choice imo, plus if you not using it, what's its value to you if not sentimental? :-)

Keep the Trip. Its good for fun and you wont get much for it.

Sell the EOS 1 and 3 and get a REALLY cheep 300v or what ever. Not as much fun to use, but you can still use your EOS lenses and if you DO use it you'll really want to shoot filum for its own sake not for the use of a fancy plastic box!

But then why would you use "Krappy Canon" when you can use "Lovly 'Limpus"?

 Yeah and sell all his nice Om1, Om4s etc and just get a Krappy £10 OM10

Aye, they're a right lot of help aren't they?

Maybe I'll hang on to the two EOS SLRs and offload the two Mamiya ZM SLRs instead and the remaining folder, the Trip and the Zorki Rangie too. Okay so I know it's supposed to be a Leica clone but that's no great recommendation.

And then, maybe, it'll be the Mamiya 645 gear to go but I hope not.

It's difficult to give an opinion as I don't know how much you are interested in film, and I don't own a DSLR and you have "L" glass as well.....and I'm a lens man anyway (I love some of those old screw lenses).
As 35mm negative film without drum scanning or even printing in the darkroom just can't match a very good DSLR, so maybe you could just use your 645 gear for film. If that doesn't appeal to you, then another option is to sell everything except the OMs and spend some of the money on some Zuiko lenses e.g. a 24mm lens to make your OM's more useful.

Please do not worry about this. :nono: My interest in film I think comes from the ergonomics of the film SLR, and from time to time  from rangefinders.

:thinking:How much do I use film? Well 35mm almost all the time. I do not want to get into developing my own but rely hugely on Studio 5 in Thetford where I work. They dev & cd all my stuff and it's only when I pick up a handful at a time that I think about the cost of this hobby:rules:

MF? Well I've managed to assemble a case of Mamiya 645 lenses and two bodies and I worship the ergonomics of the WLF mounted 645 but also enjoy slightly less the AE Prism mounted 645 Pro which meters nicely for me. Sadly Studio5 are not geared up to do high res scans of MF so the output is less satisfying. I just need to send some 120 film off elsewhere for high res scans and then come to terms with the cost. :rules::rules::bonk::bonk:

Lens man eh? Well I keep a number of old lenses to mount on my DSLR and do ge genuine enjoyment from them. M42 mostly:thumbs::thumbs:

So for me DSLR = wholly satisfying, 35mm Olympus SLR = wholly satisfying, MF = partially satisfying.

For me, after 60 years of photography, I could just settle down with my RB67 and Bronica 645 and a Canon T90......but if only I could find somewhere LOCAL that would develop my colour MF negs for about £2.50 and do them within a few hours or maybe a day :( until then it's still fun using 35mm film with different cameras and lenses.

I've not yet had 60 years of anything yet so I am humbled by your experience.

Well thanks but on visiting forums I've realised I don't know much :shake: ...but surely you are not far behind if you starting taking photos at 12 years old

I don't think that P&S with mum's instamatic counts for much. Technically I've been alive for 60 years, just not quite 60 years as an independent life form:lol::lol:

The internet's a powerful tool but like any tool you've got to know when and how to use it.:bang:
