So now both me and the missus are back shooting, we need some editing software but don't want to go down the Adobe route again as we had half a year to pay off last time we ended the subscription, what we want is something that's good and dare I say, as good if possible but with a one off purchase payment and none of this subscription malarky, the free software's out there don't really interest us as I have tried most and although most are up to the job of editing for free, they all seem to lack some qualities, I tried Affinity photo when it first came out and thought it was ok but wasn't anywhere near as good as Photoshop, has this now changed?
So what's out there in the world of photo editing that's easy, does the job and isn't going to need a re mortgage to buy.

I am like you @Dangermouse in not wanting to get embedded in the subscription system for software.

Personally, I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021. It has a standalone version, with a one-off fee of around £70.

It is regarded as the slightly stripped down version of Photoshop, but it does an excellent job.

I think you can download a 30-day Trial version to see if it is what you want before you commit to a purchase.

I hope that helps :)

Just looking at Elements now, special offer on Groupon £49

Its now a toss up between Affinity or Elements 2022, both are £49 and we know our way around Adobe software so ............hmmm

Moved from Adobe to Affinity 3 years ago. It does all the things I want, and is easy to learn if you are used to PS. It has been deliberately designed to capture PS customers, and the workflow is vert similar. I found it to be a n easy migration.

I moved from Adobe and tried On1, dxo pl5 and because I was briefly in the Fuji world, Capture One. They are all good, but my preference is for DXO as I have a micro four thirds camera and the programme seems to treat Olympus raw files very well. I did find Capture One was superb for Fuji so I still use it for my Olympus raw files, I jump between the two!! I haven’t taken to On1 even though it provides a very inclusive package as it has so many bells and whistles, which would be great if I wanted to spend ages editing!

I use Photoshop 2022 full version along with TOPAZ Denoise :)

Elements does about 600% of what I want/need! Probably more TBH.

I also use Adobe Elements but the 2020 version.
