ok before i start ive done the search and i`m still unsure? SO i`m getting a fresh out look on things.
I`m currently looking at these two lenses.

Canon 100-400L IS
&
Sigma 120-400mm APO

ok so i know the Canon cost a fair bit more but i keep reading reports of SOFT ones, which is kinda putting me off!

At the moment i have the money for the sigma (second hand) or should i save the pennys for the Canon????

I own a 400D and will be shooting mainly Motorsport and Zoo animals, please can you provide and information of your OWN experiance with the either of the two lenses, post a pic/Pros and Cons ect.:thinking::thinking::thinking:

Try to keep a sense of proportion here.

I have fifteen copies of the 100-400L and they're all fine. You hear a few reports of people complaining about their lenses. You never hear from the 99.9% of customers who are perfectly happy with them. And you haven't heard about any problems with the Sigma simply because hardly anybody's got one yet.

I'd suggest going to a shop and handling them both. See how you feel then. I did that last year (before I had the lens hire business ... long story) when I was thinking of buying a telephoto, and I tried the Canon 100-400 against the Sigma 170-500 and Sigma 50-500. My opinion was that the canon totally blew away both the Sigma on every dimenson you could tjhink of - image quality, build quality, ergonomics, functionality, etc. I don't know whether the new Sigma is any better than them - given its price point, I suspect perhaps not - but either way a straight head-to-head comparsion will tell you what you need to know.
