Anybody using any of the new Android tablets that are coming on to the market - i am thinking of getting a Tablet and after opinions / recommendations of people using the hardware.

Or do i just follow the crowds outside the Apple store ?

Noooooooooo :bang:

I've got an iPad 1 & fully intend to sell it when the 2nd generation of Android tablets come out. I'm getting sick & tired of having to do things "The Apple Way" and the stupid contraints they put on my their iPad.

Obviously this is my opinion etc :)

Wait. The longer you wait, the better your experience will be...

You could wait forever. Personally I think the iPad 1 is now a massive bargain. Shame to see mine massively devalued but what the hell.

You try finding a decent android tablet for as cheap as a basic iPad 1.

Ipads/Android tabs at the mo are all compromises... If you can possibly wait, then do - the "something better is just around the corner" is never truer than with tabs. If you must have something now, the ipad is probably the best of the bunch - if only for the screen - if you're OK with a managed ecosystem. Personally (and I own an Advent Vega) I'd wait...

An Ipad 1 isn't a bad call but I do like Android

Sell it me then, and I'll give you a paper pad, you can do everything your own way then....oh..you'll still have to use a writing implement!

Hmm, yes - it is a big dilemma. iPad or Android?

You've got to love the sleek feel and appearance of the iPad and how responsive the screen is. But can you live with Apple shackles? I have an Android powered phone which is really great and easy to use.

It would be great if somebody would make a tablet that runs Android and has a great look to rival the iPad and not be some plastic lump that they all seem to be right now!

I think I would be inclined to sit on the fence for the time being. Android laptops are starting to emerge now which throws another consideration into the equation for me.

I have owned both the iPhone and Android phones, and for me the App Store is far much better than the Google Market, I would also say in terms of development the Apple iOS is the preferred platform for many developers.

I'm waiting for the Asus Transformer with the keyboard - not sure that I want it, but for the price it seems a great deal!

When the 2nd generation of Android tablets come out you can have it complete with the waste of space camera connection kit & the HDMI adaptor, I'll even throw in the Apps.

I bought the 64Gb / 3G version + connection kit to use for previewing shots when away in the wilds, it's about as much use as a 2nd hand Tampon :bang:

Nothing wrong with it as a Browser / multimedia device, it's just that the stupid restrictions that Apple put on the hardware / software ruins it for me

*what other company would reduce the current on the USB dongle so you can't use 3rd party devices. My CF card reader worked until they "updated" IOS :bang:

Gadget Show did a review of three tablets last night including the iPad 2.
The iPad was still voted the best tablet.

You could always Jailbreak the iPad to free up some of the limitations.

Eye-fi card FTP'ing directly to the iPad? Job done.

So Eye-Fi card + CF adaptor just because Apple deliberately reduced the USB adaptors current

I'll have to stop posting in this thread or I'll start whingeing about inablity to view photos at 100%/no batch delete/no ftp to my webspace/no photo-sync to iTunes....and thats only the photo related stuff.......

Whinge-whinge-whinge

I'm no great Apple fan (I've just gone down the 11" PC route instead), but the iPad is perfectly usable if you do your research first and work out how to get it to do what you want.

It hardware has never claimed that it worked with CF cards - much the opposite in fact, and most of the software requirements that you've listed can be achieved with a decent photo app such as Filterstorm Pro.

just been watching some of the filterstorm vids, looks pretty handy..

believe it or not ive hinted towards getting an ipad for my impending 30th birthday.

The problem is to many people want the iPad to do things it was never designed to do and then slate it as CARP.

I've never used a Tablet, but after having an iPhone I have just ordered an iPad 2 (will be here soon). I've done my research, know what it is capable of and what it isn't.

At the end of the day nobody is going to get PC power into a handheld tablet

I bought asus transformer the other week.and have to say I like it :)
Maybe not as slim as iPad2.
Screen(tft) is brilliant.
In next couple of days with new 3.1 OS it should have usb host working and that means be able to get cf cards working on it and maybe even get them to download straight from the camera:)
Wanted to wait for Samsung tablet that is slimmer than iPad2 but couldn't wait :)
Maybe I will sell it and get Samsung once it comes out but I have a feeling its gona be expensive:/

My main use will be browsing , reading ebooks and the odd bit of angry birds style gaming -which fits squarely in Ipad territory but i do like the idea of having a device that i can pop a memory card into to a view a few photos which the Ipad cant do. I think the right call at the minute is too wait and see what comes to the market over the summer.

Keep an eye on these 2 sites and peruse their tablet reviews

http://www.techradar.com/

http://www.engadget.com/

There may be others that are equally worthy.

The Motorola Xoom is looking like a good ipad alternative, and maybe the Samsung Galaxy 10.1.

Personally I'm waitng for a good 7in one with Android Honeycomb [3.0]. The recently released HTC Flyer was a disappointment with only having Android 2.3 but even then it's still worth consideration for me as it's likely to get a Honeycomb update sometime.

and Asus Transformer was updated tp 3.1 today improving system speed and HD playback ;D

Cheers - both sites bookmarked.

How have you been getting on since the update OS? Any luck connecting the camera?

And has anyone tried the Samsung Galaxy 10.1?
