Which strap

yeah i didnt have a problem with it at all, another cheap way is to use a normal strap, a qr plate and some mini carabiners from b&q.

Oh, too slippy? might be able to modify it a bit to give it some grip.

wasnt so much to slippy its just shaped and designed to go round your neck.

Couldn't wear the standard canon strap unless I had a collar on, but the Optech one is great.

I've got a Canon E1 handstrap as well and have that attached with the Optech.

They look good but I was worried the bolt into the tripod screw would work lose - does it seem pretty firm when you're walking around?

Solid as anything, and very well made. If I remember correctly it's got a rubber washer on the bolt so you can really get it very tight. No loosening so far.

Normally I just use the OEM straps threaded through carabiners on the shoulders of my body-armour - a bit extreme for most though I admit...
And they get trashed after about 4 months' use...the metal wears through the non-slip rubber padding pretty quick...

Now that would be an interesting conversation with the police while out in london taking photo's "sir can i ask what your doing?" "yes im taking photo's" "are you a terrorist?" "no a photographer" "why the body armour then?" "its makes for a comfy strap!"

Keep you head down Arkady,

lol

You can achieve the same effect with those ghastly 'fishing-vest' things that some 'safari-phots' use - you know - the ones that want you to think they've been to Iraq/Afghan...lol

Some are OK - I'd probably wear one myself if I was covering Motor-Sports or similar, since you have to wear a bloomin' day-glo 'Press' tabard anyway...

Only just seen this but thought I should comment. I too have the R-Strap and think it's great, the bolt has not given me any cause to concern over it loosening and for me it is definately more comfortable than a neck strap.

1 niggle, and this is minor. In some situations, mainly crowds, it can get continually knocked but all I do is either adjust the stop to pull the camera round a bit (slightly uncomfortable sometimes) or keep hold on the camera to avoid anyone bashing into it. It's times like this I wish it was slightly more static, but I'll look into a Spider Holster or Cotton Carrier Side Holster, when the former is available, for these occassions.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll definitely look into getting one!

I've got 2 Optech's which do take the weight off but that R strap looks very nice. I've been trying to use the Optech's in the same way as the R-strap and it's slightly awkward if you try that.

On one of the Optech's I have you can attach 2 camera's but I've found that just becomes too heavy.

It looks like this:

Another thumbs up for Op/Tech here.

They have a nice 'bounce' to them that transfers the load of heavy kit that makes them extremely comfortable to use.

This is a slight hijack of the thread, sorry, but does anyone use a wrist strap?

I have an arrangement of a Canon handstrap used in conjunction with various Op/Tech connectors which allows me to use either the handtrap with an Op/Tech wrist strap (for extra security) or an Op/Tech neck strap.

It took me while to come up with this arrangement but I'm really happy with it now. It can adapt to what I'm doing and whether or not I need both hands free.

There is another version of the r strap which is available in the UK and that's the Pap Strap. You will find the supplier if you Google it.

Im about to list a red optech strap in FS section, just trying find out 2nd hand prices

Im not discussing prices, Just giving people a heads up there will be one for sale in the FS section

Is it "safe" to use one of the OpTech straps with a larger telephoto lens, the lugs on my D90 look on the thin side?

I have the Sigma 150-500 at the minute which I carry by hand without any strap. Bit worried in case I drop it.

unless the lens has its own strap mounts (ala 300/2.8L) it'll be fine

Thanks for the help.

I notice there are a few different OpTech straps, are any better than the others? I was thinking of the Pro Loop and the "normal" webbing one.

I use the Optech super classic (without the QR) and find it great for carrying up to a 1kg lens (well, that's the heaviest I've got for my D90).
I like it's understated look - no huge branding exercises going on - and it's very comfy slung across the body with a heavy camera and lens.
