Currently I have a UWA 16-35 f4 and 70-200 f4 on a d800. I currently miss the 35mm to 70mm focal range as I usually want longer or shorterthan I can have. It's got me thinking what lens I could use to bridge the gap. Main uses would be wildlife and landscapes. The options I can see are:

Option 1: sell the 16-35mm f4 and purchase a nikon 24-70mm f2.8.

Option 2: purchase cheaper lens in 24-85mm focal range, so far I've thought of:
  • Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5
  • Nikon 24-120mm f4
  • Tamron or sigma equivalent (unsure which ones are good)
Although I like an UWA lens it's a focal length (16-24mm) I use around 20-25% so it's possible I could swap to a 24-70mm. I quite like the idea of 24-120mm as there is large overlap with my 70-200mm f4 and no loss of aperture either. How good it the nikon 24-120mm f4 for landscapes? Is the AF fast enough for wildlife?

What are your thoughts and advise? Any help would be very appreciated.

In all honesty is this Tamron a good lens for it price... Be interested to see some image samples...

Now I kmow I will keep eye out

I bought a Nikon 35-70 2.8D from here for £180 inc postage. It is superb right through the range. Excellent image quality.

What the above have said.
I have the nikkor 35-70 F/2.8 and the tamron 28-70 F/2.8.
Both good lenses. Bothe represent great vfm. Whilst the nikkor does lack contrast and a bit at the wide end, it has a really usefull close up / semi macro facility. Good old skool solid lens. One of my favourites.
