i'm using the free version of Ad-Aware at the moment but its an old version, and thinking that I need to either upgrade or move to a better option....which one do you recommend?

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Avast!
 
MBAM Pro, Microsoft Security Essentials and Win Patrol.
 
Malwarebytes , SpywareBlaster and SuperAntiSpyware
 
BitDefender and common sense.
 
MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware - but since I used Nlite on XP Pro I don't seem to have any problems as long as I'm careful which websites I go to.

I also use EasyCleaner to keep it free of crap.
