I'm currently using Authsmtp for my personal outgoing e-mails but I've recently had problems sending attachments so I'm looking for an alternative smtp provider.
I currently pay aprox £30 per year for 2000 messages 200mb per month max attachment size is supposed to be 30mb.
Anyone know of any alternative providers in roughly the same price range but I'm more interested in reliability than price.

I use my own domain name for e-mail but I do not have any hosting for it so I need to use an smtp provider. I’m guessing it may be easier for me to just pay for hosting that also provides smtp as well as pop 3?

I’m probably doing it all wrong though as I’ve not got much of a clue regarding pop3 smtp hosting etc.

What I want to have is to be totally independent of my isp, e-mail using my own domain name, pop3 mail for incoming mail and smtp for outgoing with the ability to send at least 100 e-mail a month and attach attachments up to 25mb

You must have an ISP, they should provide an SMTP server. Unless they are *really* rubbish, you should be able to set your sender address to be one using your domain and not be forced into sending using the address associated with the ISP account.

I'd get some of you own hosting, that way you'll have less mither with large attachments. Your ISP will probably limit attachment size.

Or if you have your own hosting you could email them a link to FTP it off your site.

It looks like hosting is the way to go for me I have been in contact with tsohost.co.uk and they allow attachments up to 100mb to be sent which is way way more than I need but is much better than the 10mb attachments I've seen elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Give Google apps a go. The free version gives you up to ten accounts. All you'd need to do is a few DNS changes on your domain, then you can basically use Gmail, but on your own domain name. It uses IMAP too, so you can set it up with Outlook if you want, or really easily on smart phones.

My own e-mail address is using my domain name. I just forward messages to whatever ISP I'm using, that way I keep my e-mail address whatever ISP I decide to use.

This.

It's free to use and gives you all the power of Gmail, but with your own domain.

I'm sorted now I transferred my domain to tsohost this morning from 123-reg took about 2 hours and it was done I also bought hosting for £15 for the year and my e-mail is now up and running.
I will also bear in mind the other suggestions in case I have any problems.
Thanks
