Hi All,

My contract is up for renewel in a couple of days and I have been looking at getting a smartphone. I like the I-phone but being on Vodaphone means I can't have one (Without buying one and un-locking it) so, I have would like to know what peoples thoughts are on these phones for Vodaphone. I have had mixed responses about the Nokia N97 so far, not had much to do with any of these phones so any advice greatly appricated.

Thanks

I've just got the HTC hero and I love it, but I think that might be exclusive to Orange at the moment.

Hi,

looks like I can get a HTC Hero on vodaphone. Thanks, I'll have a look.

Any others?

I changed to this from a blackberry pearl. The others I considered were Blackberry 8900, Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Storm, Nokia E71.

The Hero is streets ahead of the pearl, and although I initially found it a bit confusing I've really taken to not having a keyboard type phone.

It is much easier to type without I think, especially as the buttons were getting so small.

Got a blackberry 8900 and it does everything I need. Push e-mail is great.

Depends what you want. Im after a new phone soon and the ones im looking at are

Iphone, but iv got an itouch so im not fussed about it that much

Nokia N900, not out yet but it looks amazing. Its an internet tablet phone.

Nokia x6, not out yet but looks impressive, touch screen ect..

Nokia n97 mini. Out in oct and they say they have fixed most bugs the original n97 had.

Another i thought about was the htc pro 2 but i think a pro 3 is coming soon

I have an N97 and have mixed views on it. It's a generally really good phone BUT all the nokia applications are stored on the phone memory which is limited to 74MB, not the 32GB that you would think (thats the internal memory) as a result if you have too many apps open it runs really slowly and sometimes freezes and if you install too many apps to the phone memory is will continuously come up with warnings.

I am after a phone that I can check my emails and go on the internet, as well as use as a phone. just an all rounder really.

I have the N97. It's a good phone just rushed to market a little early. There's a big firmware upgrade due in October though - Version 2.0 I think it's called- which will add proper kinetic scrolling, fee up memory and quite a few other tweaks which should sort out the issues with it.

CLICKY

All the ones mentioned so far do the email, I've found the browser works much better on the hero than it did on my pearl, but I'm told the 8900 is a huge improvement on the pearl too.

The best thing to do is to go into a car phone warehouse and have a look at them all. I did and decided the hero would work for me. But I liked the feel of the others , I just decided that I would try a touch screen.

Thanks for your comments guys, as trapper says, I will have to go and have a look at some of these phones.

Any other advice greatfully accepted however, the last phone I got looked good in the shop but I found a host of problems with it over the first few months of use, just trying to avoid all that again.

I did loads of research before I went to the shop so I had narrowed it down and hopefully got to grips with the issues with each one.

In the end though you have to go with what you think suits you best.

I would have gone with the blackberry 8900 I think if I hadn't decided to take a chance on the Hero. The 8900 is a bit slimmer but having had the Pearl I fancied something different.

I have a htc touch hd and really rate it, had it about 6 months so you might be looking at its replacement

oh and phone them up and talk about the price plans as I saved about 200 quid that way ;)

HTC touchdiamond2 here, like it a lot.

A friend of mine got the HTC g2 yesterday[Hero] I want, I want, I want[it's the next best thing to an iphone I think] a girl can but dream, I guess!

It's a very nice looking phone, quick to respond, and has some pretty good/pointless yet funky apps to it :)

My work phone is Vodafone, and is up for renewal. I was looking at the HTC Hero too, but is only available in white through Vodafone, and 10 mins in my grubby mitts will ruin it. I since found out Carphone Warehouse are doing it in Black/brown, so I'll be going there.

treeman - phone cover...?
My friend went to Tmobile shop to get hers, and the guy said you can get exact same deal and phone if you pop to CW, so seems theyre the better option in a lot of places!

the only input i can give is DO NOT and i cant stress that enough, do not get an O2 phone (i.e XDA brand) theyre terrible.

im guessing its mainly due to windows mobile, so i would avoid it if you can.

My O2 XDA was fine....

after I debranded / flashed the OS :D. They seem to pile a load of useless junk on the phone that slows it down A LOT

which XDA did you have?

ive got the ignito, and i want to burn it

I had the XDA MiniS, it made phone calls & sync'ed all my contacts from outlook, it did the job (after junking the O2 S/W)

I have the Nokia e63 and as a business/smartphone its the dogz the only thing it doesnt have is GPS but its only a £30 add on if you need it and according to the reviews it blows the blackberry offerings away, but I really dont believe all the hype its just a great phone that does all I need from it and much better than my old HP6340

what's the biggest improvement you're seeing?

Difficult to quantify, smoother/faster response & latest versions of the Apps . It also uses extra features in PocketInformant

I have the HD as well (since December) and it's brilliant, but getting on a bit now (as such, still no real replacement until the Leo comes out), fast, easy to use, brilliant for internet (in fact I would go as far as saying the best phone on the market at the moment bar the Pro 2) and as it's a WM phone it syncs with both hotmail (and other mail providers) and outlook/exchange seamlessly (literally type in your username and password for hotmail and you are done)

So my suggestions would be either the Touch HD (or replacement when it comes out, the Leo) or the Pro 2 or if you want android the Hero, which is also very good.:)
