Which sensor cleaning swabs do you use on your D700?

I don't need one, but was wondering in case I do.

I've read some good stuff about Digi Pads, but haven't found the right one for the D700. I know that these are made in different packets for different types of sensors and different sized sensors. I would hate to get the wrong one in case it causes any damage to my sensor.

Again, I am in no current urgent need for it now ... but with the rate I keep changing lenses a few dust particles are bound to lodge themselves in there.

On the same note, how good is the auto. sensor cleaner of the D700?

I use the Visible Dust 1.0x swabs on me D3 (same sensor as the d700) which seem to work well. I had a serious case of sensor smearing recently and the swabbing got it looking spangly again. :thumbs:
 
Sorry mate, it's a Finnish store but it's easy for as I have all these bookmarked, you get the point anyway:):

Sensor Wand

E2 Eclipse Optic Cleaner

Pec Pads

Rocket Blower

Works a treat, a little scary the first time round but I've done it quite a few times now.

Just don't use an Arctic Butterfly, the shutter chamber on D3's and D700's are coated with some kind of factory grease, an Arctic Butterfly smears this grease all around the low pass filter resulting in the need for a pro clean by an authorized Nikon Tech. No fun.

Thanks for the head's up on the similarity with the D3. I've not been able to find one that's for the D3, otherwise I would have got it.

Again, thank you for mentioning the Visible Dust package you use. I've looked into that and got even more confused :eek:

They make different swab colours green and orange; also they make different chemicals Sensor Cleaner, Smear Away, and VDust Plus ... :shrug::thinking: which of these do you use, and what's the different .... and why why why do they do them like this?

That's a total of eight different combinations :bang:

No probs mate,

The visible dust swabs are awesome too, just a bit on the expensive side in the long run. That's why I invested in all the other stuff.

I use the orange swabs (just what they had in the shop, no rational decision making process involved) and the v-dust+ liquid which is supposed to be their multi purpose dust and smearing fluid.

As to why they make so many options.... I suppose they are hoping people will buy one of each ;)

It's hard to go wrong with Visi D gear, but there is the price issue and you only get 12 swabs per pack. Can get very expensive if you find your sensor getting dirty often.
 
Never done a "wet clean" on a full frame camera - not needed to.

My D700 sensor seems spotless. I do have the cleaning turned On at startup and shutdown, but I don't know if it works. On my first D700 I could hear it working - "eek eek squeak", but I can't hear a thing from my current one...:suspect:

Sensor is still clean anyhow! :)
 
Thanks .. you are right, they are steep in price.

Mind you, I just need something right now to give me the comfort of knowing I have something handy while I search the products you've kindly listed for me.

I have the blower, so that's one item I don't need. The liquid and pads, I've managed to find at WHE; but, it's the tongue, or something similar to it, that I'm unable to locate!
 
Thanks Andy, I don't have any dust on my sensor just yet; and have not used the internal one before (not even on the D300), but I guess I ought to have it set-up as you've done with yours.

Still, there are times that things get sticky and I'd like to have something handy .. just in case.

So would I hence the original link to the pre trimmed one, 5 euro it was when I bought mine :lol:
Just though twas comical once the true origin is revealed. :D
