Hi,

Anyone able to recommend a reasonably inexpensive rucksack for my kit? basically looking for one with will take a camera+lens, plus a spare lens, and a couple of bits and bobs, but leave room for a jumper and a few cans of drink and sandwiches basically......

Ive looked at the Lowepro Orion Trekker II which looks pretty good for what I want, and only c£25 looks a bargain, but my only concern is where the kit is located - being at the bottom does this become a little exposed when putting the pack down for knocks etc? If anyone has this, how well cushioned is the bottom?

Thanks in advance

Dave

I have several Lowe rucksacs, including a older Orion Trekker. They are very good and provide really good protection for your gear. It was so good that I've stayed with the brand and now have the mini trekker and nature trekker as well!
Its certainly a good bag.

Personally I would keep food and drink seperate to my gear. Spend as much as you can on the kit bag and go cheap on your food bag. Hot/cold drinks dont discriminate between your beloved gear or a ham sandwich.

I used to have the Orion Treker but found the padding a little on the thin side. I now have a fastpack 350 which gives far greater protection to your kit.

I agree Hawk, but also dont want to be carrying two bags around really. Another reason for why having a bag where the camera is stored at the bottom - a leaking drinks can would soon create a very expensive mess. Would prefer the jumper and food at the botton, and the padded area for kit at the top. one of the key reasons for the thread tbh, but that one ive seen does seem a bargain.

anyone else to owt to add on this?

particularly anyone who already has this one.

What about a vertex 100aw? I've got one for sale and normally carry 2 cans of juice and sandwiches in the top of the bag, and depending on how you set the dividers I have also had a jumper rolled up down the side. Which Still leaves room for a 50d + 70-200mm f2.8 is, canon 24-105mm and a free area for extras.

hi poppy. looking at it, it looks very similar in appearance. how would you say it compares, and what are you asking for it out of interest at this stage?

I've never used the orion. I've had a fastpack 250 and a flipside 300 and I think the vertex is better made (sealed zips, waterproof cover etc). My other bag is a dakine photo and the lowepro gets selected anytime I think I may be in the bad weather for any length of time.

Its for sale in the classifieds. (dont think I can mention price in non classified section)
