I have a Netgear WNR854T, recently its been playing up! it'd be fine for a while, but for no apparent reason the Wireless activity light would flash in regular pulses and id lose all wireless connections. I would have to pull the power on it and let it restart to get back to normal, now, ALL lights are OFF except the power light! and THAT is green at all times, even if i turn it off and on (usually it goes amber until its established connections)

So, it appears to be dead.. iv been looking about at the various routers and makes.. im baffled! Can anyone here help me make a decision please???

I have Macintosh pc and laptops..

i need good wireless connectivity, this would be for Playstation 3, Printer, itouch ect.

Gigabit Lan.

I have a Cable internet modem on Virgin media...

So, what would you suggest?

Thanks... :)

the trouble is i cant even connect to the setup screen through the browser! its like its dead.. only life in it is the power light!

I have a DLink wireless router and this is acting up as well - it works, but the wireless connection is often disconnected (3-4 time per hour).
For a new solution, I would choose the pro solution - such as Cisco or 3com. Note, the Cisco is difficult to configure, so you need be quite a techie...

Im not much of a techie mate! lol..

Iv been looking at these, but i cant see that much difference!

Here and Here..

But earlier today i was looking at some N1 products, not sure if they would be better..

I've bought all my routers from solwise.co.uk and never been disappointed yet, if you can't bring yours back to life, try them.

Belkin Vision N - great wireless and gigabit lan ports.

I'm having similar problems with a Netgear.

It can work all day, then sometimes when I put Xbox on it can disconnect me from the internet every 5 minutes. All other lights stay on and green, just the internet light flashes red!

Is this likely to be a firmware issue as mentioned above? I don't know anyone else who has such bad disconnection issues, and I'm sure my IP (Utility Warehouse) can't be providing such a bad connection.

I've had disconnection problems with a Linksys router. BT Line and a good connection speed . The disconection seems random and I've now opted for the "Always connected " option. Still drops and a reboot is necessary. Router is 10 M away through 2 partition wall ( Gyproc) .

Now running test with a phone extension and sitting router next to computer

don't buy netgear they suck balls ;)

we have dodgy power factors and a lot of spikes and kill them frequently

Im getting a little snowed under with all the different models!

Does DUAL BAND mean its ADSL and Cable compatible?

Iv also been looking at the

Netgear WNDR3300

Netgear N300

Can anyone suggest which of these would be the best choice? out of the other two i posted earlier too..

I was on the phone to my service provider setting up a new Modem, he said never touch Belkin! but said that Linksys was about the best..

OK, how about this one??

D-Link DIR-655

Wireless routers tend to work on 2.4 GHz , however 5GHz is now available for use. So some routers use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz , doubling the bandwidth and therefore the throughput. Hence the phrase Dual Band

I have been using a Linksys WRT54GS for about 5 years without no problems at all... Doesnt have gigabit lan ports but works great and can be picked up for a decent price.

I have Virgin Broadband, I bought one of these and can't believe the improvement it has made in both speed and connectivity, I'm not sure it meets all your needs but you definetely want to be getting a N router rather than G or G+.

Thanks for the help guys.. im still not too sure.. i want something i can keep for a long time so want to get something reliable and quick!

5GHZ would not be ay good to me as my mac laptops (I dont think) arnt on that band..

Jeez.. im still no closer to deciding! someone do it for me?? :gag:

But iv been put off Belkin by a few people! one of them being the Techie at my ISP!!!

Right.. iv gone with the WNDR3500 lets hope its a good un..
