Hi,

I'm going to be doing a wedding next year where I can either stand at the back or in the balcony. I'd like to put one of my 5D's in the balcony and me on the ground, firing the balcony camera the same time as I take a shot.

What would you recommend? I don't want Pocket Wizards, too much for me and I already have Skyports.

Thanks,
Ram

I bought a Hahnel Giga T Pro, has served me well. As long as youve not got a gurt great wall in between you and the camera it works well. Ace feature set and compared to the Canon alternative its pretty cheap.

You can do it with a Yongnuo RF-602, £30 a set from Amazon.

Transmitter plugged into your camera's hot-shoe (or sync socket) and receiver in the remote socket of the other camera. Works a treat, but remember that the cameras won't be in perfect sync if you're using flash.

Edit: check that it comes with the right cables, sometimes supplied, sometimes a couple of quid extra.

I second Sam's suggestion of the Hahnel Giga T Pro.

Remember to ensure that the settings on both pieces do correlate or they won't be ' talking ' to each other.

Good luck with the wedding

Can that Hahnel jobbie be fired by a camera (to trigger the other remote camera automatically)? That's what I understood the OP was trying to do.

And the Hahnel costs £70.

Thanks. I'll take a look into this one. I won't have flash on either camera, it will be in a church. Me on the ground floor, camera in hand and the second camera in the balcony.

Yep, looking at the Hahnel documentation, it does not mention remote trigger of a second camera from the first camera. Is this what you guys are doing with the Hahnel?

I can second the recommendation of the Yongnuo RF-602, really works well for me.

I've researched a little more on these and they look like the set for me. Thanks for pointing me to them.

Do you know where to get the cable to fire the camera please? I can't find any on Amazon with the right remote connector cable.

Thanks.

Edit: crossed post - you're sorted

You can try FlashInThePan (Graham). Check his thread in the advertisers section and drop him a PM, that's where I got mine. The one you want is sold as a camera trigger and has three-pin plugs at each end - one with a red collar which goes into the receiver and a regular Canon remote plug on the other for the camera - make sure you get the three-pin Canon version for a 5D2.

On the job, I would pre-focus the camera and switch that to manual, or it may not fire if it can't get an AF lock.
