I am sorry if this has been posted before as I know it is a problem which confronts most of us
I use canon 580 speedlites and am wanting to buy a rechargable systym , charger and Batteries, and am wondering what is the best to go for for best performance with one eye on economy.
Are there differing technologies to consider ?
Any help would help stop myself and others buying the wrong ones.

i have just purchased from netto a set of 4 2700mah batteries and charger for £5.99

they are currently charging for test

I have a Powerex Maha charger and analyser, with Sanyo Eneloops.

The Powerex enables me to match batteries up according to actual capacity and find that the Eneloops are very close to their advertised mAh rating..

Hope this helps!

I use Ansmann 2800 NiMH Energy batteries (AA's) for my flash units which are good. Like all rechargables, they get tired after about 30 - 40 flashes so the recycle times take that bit longer after that but I will get 80-100 flashes out of a set. I have 3 sets per flash which I rotate as often as I can if I'm taking a lot of shots at any one time and need to depend on the flash being ready when I need it.

I also have an Ansmann Energy 8 desk top recharger in the office which charges 6 AA's at a time (or several other battery sizes in the slots). Its very good for keeping the batteries healthy by totally refreshing them each time they're plugged in.

I also have an Ansmann Photo Cam charger for out in the field which works off both 12V car charger and standard 240V in home which is also very good. The Photocam comes with 4 2400 Photo NiMH batteries which are c$%p.

IMO its false economy to by bargain bucket rechargables because you either leave them at home and use standard batteries or eventually just get so frustrated with the c&%p stuff that you end up buying good rechargables in the long run.

I have a Quantum Turbo 2x2. I got it 2nd hand off Ebay and rate it very highly.

It'll charge either your flash or your body or in this model's case, both at once.

Uniross 2700mah's are ok but if you're firing your flash repeatedly and quickly like at a wedding or press style event you will notice they don't refresh the flash quick enough and get worse and the power fades. Result being you get a perfectly exposed shot of the bride and groom with their eyes shut and then the next shot 0.3 seconds later has them with their eyes open, perfectly posed but it's pitch dark.
