Can anyone recommend a charger and batteries for the SB800?

Thankyou

Any decent branded rechargeable batteries should be ok look for something 2700 ish and you shouldn't go far wrong. Look on fleabay for a box of 20 so you have four sets and keep them charged ready.

Sanyo Eneloops and Powerex Maha C9000 charger/analyser

I use NihH 2700mAh Fujicells, very cheap but work well.

Sanyo Eneloops - I would say 4 of them with the bundled charger.... but you will maybe need 5 for the SB-800...

Just be careful with the 1 hour chargers, this one I bought from one of the Ebay sellers that does the cheap Fujicell 2700 AAs. It lasted three charges and....

Used the V8 supercharger from 7dayshop. Heats the batts up like hell which aint good for them so I run a desk fan over them.

Never gone wrong with Uniross 2700's either.

I use the Uniross 2700's too.

However, if you do take multiple shots on flash, you will find that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th shots will be dark as the flash just can't recharge itself quickly enough.

I upgraded to a Quantum Turbo 2x2 and that is superb if you need to use flash alot and very frequently.

Thanks for all the replies.

It's a while since I've used standard (as opposed to model specific, eg mobile phone or camera) rechargables. I've never liked the fact that rechargable AAs were 1.2v instead of 1.5v. But what's more important, the voltage, or mAh (if that depends on what it's being used for, can you give examples of where each has the advantage)?

Thanks

Watch for knackering up your flash *** with the turbo or other external packs.

Quantums are fine, they really are - providing its up to spec for whatever flash you are using. For example there are issues with the SB-900 and issues beyond even what Quantum confess to!

Whatever AA's will never be a Quantum, they are superb.... but be careful your flash has a thermal cut out, or you could cook it!

Not a problem with the SB-900....

I use Uniross's equivalent of Eneloops (they're called Hybrios) for general usage and to leave in the flash as they keep their power for long periods of time. However I also have 2 sets of 7dayshop 2700mAh batteries for when I know I am going to be using the flash lots, they have more power, but ideally need to be charged just before you go out to get the best from them.
