Which PP software for Mac

I need some advice please, I went out yesterday and ended up buying myself a nice shiney new 27" imac (mmmm very nice), I have always owned PC's so I have never been an Apple user but have always fancied one. In the past I used PC mainly for gaming but now I am into photography I thought it time to make the jump.

My dilema and question to you all is......which editing software to choose?...I have been learning to use CS5 on the PC, I don't have any issues over the cost of CS5 or whichever might be better as I can claim it as expenses ;)

Aperture is a bargain from the app store at £40
 
I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 which comes with 2 discs, one for mac and the other for windows. Have to say I am impressed with the product having previously had Elements 7 and can't really see any reason for getting CS5 unless your doing professional photography.

If you've not done much PP then jumping straight into CS5 can be a bit daunting. In fact depending on what you are trying to do it may be overkill.

I'd start with Elements. The latest version has a lot going for it. Plus what you learn in Elements can be used in CS5 if you decide to go that way.

Lightroom is another option and is a superb image processing programme. However if you want to work on images, such as combing two to make a single one then it won't do that. It's not designed that way, you'll need Photoshop, either Elements or CS5.

Have a look at Aperture by all means. It is cheap from the App store, however it is much like Lightroom in that you can't manipulate images with it.

Yes I know decisions, decisions. .. However you can download trial versions of the software for 30 days. Do this and you can decide what you want and which is best for you.
 
Aperture 3 from the App store is an absolute steal.

CS5 if you need all the features

Aperture 3 is brilliant I would thoroughly recommend it. You only need Photoshop for the more difficult editing jobs. You would not regret buying this for £44.99
 
Aperture and Elements is all you need, if fact a very rarely use elements now and do it all in Aperture.
 
Hi All

Thank you very much for your replies, as one of you said above I think downloading the trials would be a good start, however I do like CS5 for what it can do above and beyond anything else although it probably is a little overkill for basic tweaks, would it be worth using a simpler program like Elements, Aperture or LightRoom for the basic tweaks and CS5 for the bigger tasks like cloning etc...?
